The Grounds at GCC is a place for the community to enjoy, explore, and experience God's creation in our safe, 23-acre property located inside the City of Roanoke.

This nosey buck is checking out the camera! Notice the fuzzy antlers? That's known as being in velvet. The velvet coating helps the antlers grow 1/2 to 1 inch DAILY because deer shed and then regrow a new, bigger set each year. We really enjoy seeing these guys on our property!

This week we planted 7 native plants around our community garden. Not only will it make the area more interesting and beautiful for the people who visit, but by planting native plants we are helping to support the natural ecosystem and making the Grounds an inviting place for birds, butterflies and bees too! Our Community Garden, the garden of Koinonia, is maintained by local groups of youth from Youth Enrichment Services of Southwest Virginia and Kids Soar. Here, the kids learn about plants, food, and being part of a community by working together and giving back! Catherine Shavers Long is our garden manager.

A whimsical vine-covered archway, volleyball, tetherball, zip line, NEW slack line and net swing, outdoor stage for creative play, hills, tunnels, climbers... all surrounded by the sights and sounds of God's awesome creation.
