We made it. Now the real work begins. 🥹🦆❤️

The Muscovies of The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida finally have a new property to call home in Crystal River, and watching them explore, socialize, forage, and simply get to be ducks here has already made every difficult step of this journey worth it.

But getting the property was only the beginning.

Right now, our immediate future is about turning this new property into the safe, permanent Sanctuary our ducks deserve. ❤️

There is still SO much to do.

Large, secure enclosures need to be built. Ponds and safe swimming areas need to be created. Infrastructure needs to be improved. Spaces need to be designed for our special-needs and imprinted residents. And most importantly, the ducks who already depend on us need time to settle into their new home while we learn what works best for everyone.

Because of this, our intake remains closed.

We know how difficult that can be to hear. We receive messages constantly about Muscovies who desperately need somewhere safe to go, and saying no is one of the hardest parts of what we do. We wish we could help every single one.

But we cannot help future ducks by compromising the care of the ducks who already depend on us.

Our standards for their care are intentionally high. Before we can even consider what intake might look like in the future, we need to know that the proper spaces, resources, routines, and support are in place.

Realistically, getting everyone settled and establishing those systems is going to take time. We do not currently have a date for when, or if, intake will reopen.

For now, our focus is simple:

Keep them safe. ❤️
Help them settle. 🦆
Build the Sanctuary they deserve. 🏡

And this is where YOU can help us. ❤️

The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida is volunteer-run and does not receive government funding. Every enclosure built, every pond created, every hour volunteered, every post shared, and every donation helps us continue caring for the ducks who already call the Sanctuary home while we build toward their future.

If you have been following our journey and wondering how you can help, this is the time.

Donate. Volunteer. Share this post. Follow our journey. Help another person see Muscovies for the intelligent, social, hilarious, individual little beings that we know them to be.

Even $5 or $10 adds up when a community comes together. ❤️

We have the property.
We have the ducks.
We have the dream.

Now we need your help building it. 🥹🦆❤️

Bubbles with these two lovely ladies! 🦆🫧💕

These two absolutely LOVE blowing bubbles in their water! 🫧 They’ll dip their bills in, open their mouths, and bubble away like they have their own personal little bubble machines.

One of our favorite parts of caring for so many Muscovies is getting to know all of their individual quirks and personalities. Even something as simple as a bowl of fresh water can turn into entertainment. 🥹❤️

Muscovies are curious, social, wonderfully unique animals, and sometimes the sweetest moments at the Sanctuary are simply getting to watch them enjoy being ducks.

Just two lovely ladies, blowing bubbles and living their best little Muscovy lives. 🦆🫧💕

25 years later, we still remember. 🇺🇸❤️

Twenty-five years ago today, thousands of people woke up, kissed their loved ones goodbye, went to work, boarded a flight, or simply began what they believed would be an ordinary Tuesday. So many of them never made it home.

Today, we honor every life lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the innocent people whose lives were taken far too soon, the first responders who courageously ran toward danger while others were running away, and the families who were left to carry an unimaginable loss.

We remember the phone calls that became final goodbyes. The families who waited for loved ones who would never walk through the door again. The children who grew up without a parent. The parents who lost a child. The husbands, wives, siblings, friends, coworkers, and communities whose lives changed forever in a matter of moments.

A quarter of a century has passed, but time does not erase the lives that were lived, the people who were loved, or the empty spaces they left behind.

From all of us at The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida, our hearts are with every family and loved one who has carried those memories for the past 25 years.

Today, we pause for them.

September 11, 2001.
25 years later.
Never forgotten. 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

Good morning from the NEW Muscovy Sanctuary! ☀️🦆🌿

Just a little glimpse into what mornings are starting to look like around here. 🥹❤️ Ducks wandering, exploring, socializing, frolicking through the grass, and getting acquainted with the place that will become their new home.

There is still SO much work ahead of us and so much we want to create on these 10 acres, but moments like this remind us exactly why we’re doing it. ❤️

After lives that haven’t always been easy, watching these ducks simply get to be ducks is pretty special. Roaming through the grass, enjoying the sunshine, making friends, and exploring their new surroundings. 🥹🌿🦆

This property is still very much a work in progress, but little by little, the vision is becoming a reality.

Welcome to the new Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida. This is only the beginning. ❤️🦆

UPDATE: HE HAS BEEN ARRESTED!!!

🚨 URGENT — PEMBROKE PINES / BROWARD COUNTY, PLEASE SHARE! 🚨

We are heartbroken and horrified by a recent case in Pembroke Pines involving the alleged abuse and killing of several Muscovy ducks, including ducklings. The Pembroke Pines Police Department is actively investigating and asking for the public’s help identifying the individual shown in the disturbing footage.

For anyone who needs to hear this: Cruelty toward a Muscovy duck is animal cruelty.

Muscovies are intelligent, social animals who experience fear, pain, stress, comfort and trust. Their mothers are incredibly devoted to their babies. They protect them, teach them how to find food and swim, and care for them until they become independent.

How these birds are classified does not make them disposable, and it does not make cruelty toward them acceptable. They deserve protection, compassion and people willing to speak up when something is wrong.

This case is also an important reminder of why The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida created a place on our website specifically for reporting suspected Muscovy abuse and neglect.

If you witness someone harming, threatening or mistreating Muscovies, please do not assume there is nothing you can do and do not look the other way.

Document as much as you safely can. Photos, videos, dates, times, exact locations, descriptions and witness information can all be extremely important.

🦆 REPORT SUSPECTED MUSCOVY ABUSE OR NEGLECT TO THE SANCTUARY:

https://www.muscovysanctuary.org/portal/report

These reports help us gather and preserve information, understand what is happening and determine what steps may be available. When appropriate, that information can also help when a situation needs to be escalated to law enforcement, animal services or other appropriate agencies.

For this particular case, law enforcement is already investigating. If you recognize the individual shown or have ANY information that could help identify him, please contact the Pembroke Pines Police Department directly.

Please do not confront the individual and do not post unverified names or personal information publicly. Send tips and evidence directly to law enforcement.

⚠️ WARNING: The footage associated with this case is extremely disturbing. Please use discretion before viewing it.

Please share this post, especially with anyone in Pembroke Pines, Broward County and South Florida. Someone may recognize this person, and every share increases the chance that this reaches the right set of eyes.

And please remember our reporting portal beyond this case. If you ever witness a Muscovy being intentionally harmed or seriously neglected: document it, report it and speak up.

Muscovies cannot tell us when someone is hurting them.

We have to be willing to speak up for them. 🦆❤️

🚨 URGENT — BROWARD COUNTY, PLEASE SHARE! 🚨

The Pembroke Pines Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a man shown in a deeply disturbing video that police say appears to depict the abuse and killing of several Muscovy ducks, including ducklings.

This is absolutely horrific. FARA does not tolerate cruelty toward any animal, regardless of their species or how they are classified.

Muscovies are a unique and intelligent species of duck. Their mothers are incredibly devoted to their babies. They protect them, teach them how to find food and swim, and care for them until they become independent. These animals feel fear, pain, and distress, and they deserve protection.

If you recognize this man or have any information, please contact the Pembroke Pines Police Department immediately. Please do not confront him or share unverified personal information online 🚨send all tips directly to law enforcement🚨

, please share, share, share! Someone may recognize him, and every share could help investigators identify him.

⚠️ The footage is extremely disturbing. Please watch at your own discretion.

OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!!

For the last seven years, our dream has been to have a place of our own where Muscovies can live safely and happily. That dream is now our reality. You will soon be able to find The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida near Crystal River.

The property already has so much potential, including a large barn with plenty of room, a beautiful gazebo with a deep moat that the ducks will play in, and lots of land that we can transform into a true sanctuary for our ducks. Someone will also be living on the property to care for and watch over the ducks.

But now the real work begins… and we’re going to need some help!

There is a lot to do before our ducks can call this property home, and we would love to start building a group of people willing to lend a hand when the time comes. If you have or know someone who has the skills listed below and might be willing to help us build enclosures and create ponds for the ducks, please comment below, message us here, or text us at 813-616-9639.

We need the following skill sets:
• Lidar operations
• Large aviary design
• Fence installation
• Pole barn building
• High bird net placement
• Plumbing
• Pond design and creation
• Duck care (feeding, watering, cleaning, etc.)
• Yard maintenance

Once we're ready to move the ducks, we will need people who understand how to catch Muscovies without injuring them.
Help us get the Sanctuary up and running, so our ducks can have their permanent home, and Muscovy lovers from all over can come and visit them.

We are The Muscovy Sanctuary of Florida. Caring for Muscovies. Educating for change. And now… building their forever home.

Ian has officially upgraded his living arrangements.🦆🏠

Every morning, Ms. Gail wakes up the ducks and takes them out to the duck yard. But one morning, she noticed someone was missing…

Ian.

After a little searching, she discovered that this boy had not only sneaked into the house, he had made himself comfortable on top of the sofa!

And look at him! He seems very proud of himself, probably thinking, “Why would I go outside when there’s AC, a comfy sofa, and a whole house in here?” 🤣

Our imprinted Muscovies really do think they're human sometimes!
