๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ Today we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Forest Elementary to the Riverview Fire Department for a fire safety visit!

The students got to meet our firefighters, see the fire trucks up close, and learn important fire safety tips like what to do if they see smoke, how to call 911, and why smoke alarms are so important.

We love having the opportunity to connect with our community and help teach our youngest residents how to stay safe at home and at school.

A big thank you to the students, teachers, and staff from Forest Elementary for visiting us todayโ€”we hope everyone had as much fun as we did!

Stay safe, Riverview! ๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ

โฐ Daylight Saving Time Begins โ€“ Donโ€™t Forget to Check Your Alarms! โฐ

As you set your clocks forward one hour this weekend, the Riverview Firefighters would like to remind everyone that itโ€™s also the perfect time to check your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors.

โœ”๏ธ Test each alarm in your home
โœ”๏ธ Replace batteries if needed
โœ”๏ธ Make sure detectors are less than 10 years old

Working smoke and CO alarms provide an early warning and can make the difference between life and death during an emergency.

The Riverview Fire Department is proud to participate in a state program that provides and installs smoke and carbon monoxide detectors free of charge for residents!

Stay safe, Riverviewโ€”and remember: Change your clocks, check your alarms!

๐Ÿš’ Riverview Fire Department | Year in Review ๐Ÿš’

Happy New Year from the Riverview Fire Department. As we begin the new year, we would like to take a moment to reflect on another year of service to the City of Riverview.

Throughout the past year, the Riverview Fire Department responded to 3,193 calls for service, averaging nearly nine calls per day. These calls included medical emergencies, fire incidents, motor vehicle accidents, and other public service responses, each requiring professionalism, training, and dedication.

The department is staffed with four firefighter/paramedics on duty 24 hours a day, ensuring continuous emergency coverage for the community. Our personnel remain prepared at all times to respond when residents need assistance.

We sincerely thank the Riverview community for their continued trust and support. It is a privilege to serve this city, and we remain committed to protecting lives and property in the year ahead.

๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Itโ€™s Time to โ€œFall Back!โ€ ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday โ€” donโ€™t forget to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed!

While youโ€™re at it, this is the perfect time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
โœ… Test each alarm to make sure itโ€™s working properly.
โœ… Replace batteries if needed.
โœ… Check the expiration date on your detectors โ€” most need to be replaced every 10 years.

๐Ÿš’ The Riverview Fire Department is proud to participate in a statewide program that provides free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to residents.
If your home needs new detectors, we can come and install them at no cost to you!

๐Ÿ“ž To schedule an installation, contact the Riverview Fire Department at (734) 281-4264.

A quick check โ€” or a new detector โ€” can save lives. Stay safe, Riverview!

๐Ÿš’ Mutual Aid Response โ€“ Southgate American House Fire ๐Ÿš’

Friday night, Riverview Firefighters responded to Southgate to assist with a structure fire at the American House senior living community. Our crews returned again early Sunday morning to help with a rekindle at the same location.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and hardworking firefighters in our downriver communities. Incidents like these show the true meaning of teamwork โ€” with multiple departments coming together to protect lives and property.

A big thank you to all the departments who responded and worked tirelessly throughout the weekend. The cooperation and professionalism shown by everyone on scene is what makes our Downriver fire service community so strong. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire Safety Month โ€“ Week 3: Cooking Safety ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Cooking is the leading cause of home fires โ€” but the good news is most are preventable!
Hereโ€™s what the numbers show:
โ€ข From 2017-2019, U.S. fire departments responded to an average of ~187,500 cooking fires in residential buildings each year. ๏ฟผ
โ€ข Those fires caused an estimated 3,325 injuries and resulted in about $444 million in property loss annually. ๏ฟผ
โ€ข Cooking accounted for about 51% of all residential building fires in that period. ๏ฟผ
โ€ข In general home fire data: about 41% of reported home fires began in the kitchen or cooking area. ๏ฟผ

Here are some simple tips to help keep your kitchen safe:
๐Ÿณ Stay alert โ€“ If youโ€™re sleepy, distracted, or have consumed alcohol, donโ€™t use the stove or oven.
๐Ÿ‘€ Watch what you heat โ€“ Never leave cooking food unattended, especially on high heat or when frying.
๐Ÿงฝ Keep it clean โ€“ Remove grease or food buildup from burners, stovetops, and ovens.
๐Ÿงฏ Be prepared โ€“ Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires. Never use water on a grease fire.
๐Ÿšซ Keep kids and pets away โ€“ Create a โ€œkid-free zoneโ€ of at least 3 feet around the stove.

Letโ€™s all do our part to make the Riverview community safer โ€” one kitchen at a time!
