It is certainly disappointing to see people act in an uncivilized manner such as those on Thursday night. What started as a teen feud ended with adults committing crimes and being terrible role models. Certain parents even initiated the assault that occurred. Our residents should not have to live in fear of these incidents. We can assure everyone that we have been working all day with the States Attorney to bring the responsible parties to justice. Sangamon County Mugshots - Illinois will soon feature one of them.

Thanks to everyone that provided video to the PD so we could put the pieces together.

This weapon was taken from an 18-year-old at Center Park on Thursday night. Please do not put our officers in a position where they have to make a split second decision on defending their life or the life of a resident.

This is an airsoft rifle that has every characteristic of an authentic assault rifle. The orange tip was removed to disguise it even more from a non-lethal weapon. The second photo shows what it is supposed to look like when purchased.

Our Hop with a Cop event was an overwhelming success with several hundred children collecting over 12,000 eggs in 7 minutes! A big thanks to our volunteers for stuffing each egg.

The Village of Riverton has made major improvements to our Veterans Park with the installation of a fishing dock for all to enjoy. Unfortunately the juveniles in the area have made it their goal to destroy the railing on a regular basis. We have identified several offenders in the past but continue to have the destruction occur. We are making an appeal to the parents of our community to monitor their children's activities as you will be ultimately responsible for expenses once they are charged with a crime.

Anyone that observes damage being done to our parks should contact the RPD so we can respond.

They have their permit in hand and will display it to you upon demand.
