If you’re a law enforcement officer in Salt Lake County, you already know.

You see the strain on the system. You see the overcrowding. You see the challenges facing our jail every day.

A recent legislative audit found that more than 100,000 inmate releases have occurred due to overcrowding over the years, and thousands of those individuals were back in the system within months.

This isn’t about politics.

It’s about public safety.

It’s about giving our deputies, corrections officers, and law enforcement professionals the resources, leadership, and support they deserve.

The jail won’t change if we keep pretending there isn’t a problem.

If you believe Salt Lake County deserves better, we’re asking you to stand with us.

A $100 donation helps us reach more voters, share the facts, and build the momentum needed to bring real change.

We can’t afford to ignore this anymore.

One day you’re holding their hand as they walk into school, and before you know it, you’re sitting in the audience watching them shine.

So proud of my daughter tonight. These moments are a gift, and I’ll never take them for granted.

From one parent to another, we must protect these kids at all costs.

One of my favorite titles will always be Dad.

Proud of Hunter and all the hard work he’s put into this play. Watching your kids step out of their comfort zone, work hard, and shine on stage is something special.

Great job Hunter 👏

Public safety only works when every part of the system works together.

Law enforcement officers and the sheriff’s office are responsible for responding to crime, making arrests, investigating cases, operating the jail, and protecting our communities day to day.

The District Attorney’s office plays a different but equally important role. Their job is to prosecute criminal cases, work through the courts, and help ensure offenders are held accountable under the law.

These offices are separate, but they have to work together. Communication, trust, and collaboration between law enforcement, the jail, prosecutors, and the courts are critical to keeping communities safe.

When one part of the system struggles, the effects ripple across the entire county. Salt Lake County’s own legislative audit highlighted serious concerns involving overcrowding releases, repeat offenders, missed court appearances, and the strain being placed on our criminal justice system.

This isn’t about politics to me. It’s about making sure families feel safe in their neighborhoods and making sure the people working in law enforcement have leadership that supports them and works toward real solutions.

As sheriff, I’ll work with every part of the criminal justice system, including the District Attorney’s office, to improve communication, strengthen accountability, and focus on what matters most: protecting the people of Salt Lake County.

Salt Lake County’s own legislative audit exposed what many of us have been warning about for years.

One repeat offender was reportedly released due to overcrowding 10 separate times. By the next arrest, that individual had 88 active warrants and 130 charges on one booking sheet.

That should concern every family in this county.

Public safety cannot come second to politics, excuses, or failed leadership. We need accountability, safer neighborhoods, and a system that actually protects the people of Salt Lake County.

As your next sheriff, I’ll fight for solutions that put our communities first and restore trust in public safety again.

For many families, Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or a day off work. It’s a day of remembrance.

A day that carries the weight of sacrifice, loss, pride, and love. 🇺🇸

Today, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives serving this country and the families who continue carrying that sacrifice every day. Their courage and legacy should never be forgotten.

Having served 26 years in the Army, I’ve seen the strength, brotherhood, and selflessness that service demands, and I’ll never take for granted the freedoms we have because of those who gave everything for them.

Please take a moment today to remember our fallen heroes and the families behind them.

For years, deputies, officers, and those working inside the system have been sounding the alarm about jail overcrowding and the impact it’s having on public safety.

Now Salt Lake County’s own legislative audit confirms it.

• Salt Lake County’s crime rate is 69% higher than the rest of Utah
• 38.4% of overcrowding releases were back in jail within 90 days

As Sheriff, I believe we need leadership that supports law enforcement, prioritizes accountability, and takes public safety seriously, not years after the damage has already been done.

We can support rehabilitation while still protecting our communities. The two should go hand in hand.
