Community Action Partnership of Riverside County

Community Action Partnership of Riverside County Helping People. Changing Lives. Ending poverty in Riverside County. Some of CAP’s core values include:

1. Education is the surest pathway out of poverty
2.

The Community Action Partnership of Riverside County is a member of a national network of over 1100 agencies across the US, in the Carribbean and the Pacific trust territories which were established under the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson for the purpose of eradicating poverty by removing barriers and enabling the poor in the pursuit of economic security. The local model is a public entity w

hich was designated an anti-poverty agency in July, 1979 to serve the 12 percent low income residents of the total county population of 2.2 million. CAP, Riverside is governed by the Board of Supervisors and administered by a tripartite Community Action Commission comprised primaries and alternates of 1/3 low income sector, 1/3 public sector and 1/3 private sector representation. Having cautioned the Board of Supervisors against building another large county bureaucracy and maintaining a small catalytic agency, CAP, Riverside relies on partners, volunteers and in-kind services to augment it’s 42 member staff and to serve the vast county which runs 250 miles from the Orange County to the Arizona border. In 2003, the Board of Supervisors adopted a vision of ending poverty in Riverside County and CAP was awarded the prestigious national “Award for Excellence” in 2005. Access--No one should be disadvantaged by where they live
3. Cooperate, support community organizations and share the wealth
4. Enable the poor to speak to power in their own behalf

Our Mission:
The Community Action Partnership of Riverside County, with the community, strives to eliminate poverty by facilitating opportunities towards self-sufficiency through education, wealth building, advocacy, and community organizing. Our Vision:
To end poverty in Riverside County. Our Promise:
Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.

Today we celebrate Weatherization Day by sharing a short video featuring Sharon, one of our program participants. Through Riverside County’s Community Action Partnership Weatherization Program, Sharon received energy‑efficient upgrades that helped lower her electric and gas bills, making her home safer, more comfortable, and more affordable.

Watch Sharon’s story and learn how weatherization is improving her family’s comfort and lowering their monthly utility bills.

The Weatherization Program helps low‑income households reduce energy costs by improving home energy efficiency. If you live in Riverside County and meet the income guidelines, you may qualify for free upgrades that enhance comfort, lower utility bills, and support the health and safety of your home.
