🚨 SCAM ALERT: 🚨

Riverside Police are warning residents about a dangerous scam in which criminals impersonate law enforcement or court staff and demand Bitcoin, or other types of payment for “missed jury duty.” These calls, texts, and emails are fraudulent, even when they sound convincing.

❗ What Makes This Scam Especially Concerning
Scammers may already know your personal information, such as:
• Your name
• Address
• Phone number
• Workplace
• Or other publicly available details
They use this information to make their threats sound real — but it is still a scam.

❗ What the Scam Looks Like
Scammers may:
• Claim you missed jury duty and now owe a fine or have a warrant
• Impersonate a Platte County deputy, clerk, or judge
• Use your personal details to sound official
• Demand immediate payment through Bitcoin, cryptocurrency ATMs, gift cards, or wire transfers
• Threaten arrest if you don’t comply
• Spoof caller ID to appear as if the call is coming from a government number

✔️ What You Should Know
• Platte County Courts and law enforcement will NEVER ask for Bitcoin or cryptocurrency.
• They will NEVER demand payment by phone.
• They will NEVER threaten arrest over the phone.
• Knowing your personal information does NOT make the call legitimate.

🚫 If You Receive a Suspicious Call or Message
• Do not send money or cryptocurrency
• Do not share personal or financial information
• Hang up immediately
• Verify directly with the court or sheriff’s office using official numbers

📞 Report the Scam
• Platte County Sheriff’s Office: 816-858-2424
• Riverside Police 816-741-1191
