Last month I alerted the community to Assembly Bill 2108. Authored by Assemblywoman Sharp-Collins, the bill would create a diversion program that allows individuals who commit property crimes, including repeat offenders, to avoid jail time. This directly undermines Proposition 36 and the clear vote by Californians to increase accountability for theft and retail crime.
I am grateful that no Orange County assembly members supported AB 2108, but unfortunately the bill passed the State Assembly by a margin of one vote. Now we must try and stop this bill in the State Senate. Please call your state senator and urge them to vote NO on AB 2108. Tell them to reject this attempt to return to the failed policies that enabled criminal behavior at the expense of law-abiding Californians.
