The members of the Riverdale Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. are a dedicated group of men and women who volunteer their time to serve their community. Trained as firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) by the state of Maryland, considered one of the best systems in the United States, they run more than 4000 calls per year between the engine and ambulance. Pr

oviding service within our first due and the outlying communities including two major commuter routes, Baltimore-Washington Parkway (295) and the Capital Beltway (495). More than just being trained in emergency services they are dedicated to being a contributing part of one of the largest and most successful combination Fire/EMS systems in the country, the Prince Georges County Fire/EMS Department. As a department it experiences an operational tempo far beyond that of most combination systems.

While our normal ambulance was undergoing maintenance, your Riverdale Heights Volunteers borrowed a reserve ambulance from PGFD Apparatus Maintenance Division to continue serving our community, and were pleasantly surprised to be issued this particular vehicle, as this unit, a 2016 Freightliner/Wheeled Coach, just happens to be M31617, originally assigned as Ambulance 813 when new, serving Riverdale Heights faithfully from 2016-2024. RHVFD Officers and members had the privilege of attending the 2026 Special Tribute hosted by the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (PGCVF&RA) and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (LAPGCVF&RA). This program is dedicated to recognizing those whose service, leadership, and commitment have made a lasting impact on the volunteer fire and rescue service in Prince George’s County. RHVFD President Goninan, Vice President Perry, Past Chief Zambrana, and Captain Bridgers, were proud to help recognize Special Tribute Honorees Glenn and Amy Locker, whom have been of great assistance to our corporation in many ways over their years of service.

And test your smoke detectors, as well as change the betteries to keep your families safe! If it's time to change your smoke detector, make sure to change it to the 10-year sealed-in battery smoke detectors. 🌷 ⏰
