Tonight
A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday
A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night
Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and 2am. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 65. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

..HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM
EDT FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 103 degrees expected.

* WHERE...Western Monmouth, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex,
Warren, Hunterdon, Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington Counties.

* WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Some showers and thunderstorms late this
afternoon and again late Friday afternoon will provide some local
relief from the heat, however it will still remain very humid. It
will then turn much less humid this weekend in the wake of a cold
front.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Monday Night Drill - Last evening Assistant Chief Davis and Captain Norton held company drills going over Ladder evolutions and Squad operations.
In the last several months we have been extremely fortunate in taking on several new probationary members and welcome the return of a couple other members. Its been the perfect time to polish up and learn “the basics”.

Compactor Fire - This morning, RFD was dispatched to 1 North Corporate Dr for the report of smoke in the building. Chief 30, Chief 35, Ladder 31, and Squad 33 responded and located a fire inside of a removable compactor, which was connected to the building. With assistance from Malanga’s Towing, the compactor was pulled from the building. There was no extension into the building. Units operated on scene for approximately three hours. Thank you to Pompton Lakes-Riverdale First Aid Squad and Wanaque First Aid Squad for standing by and rehab services! And thank you Pompton Lakes PD and Riverdale PD for your assistance!

On Memorial Day afternoon, the Bloomingdale Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting an active fire at the Treetop Apartment Complex located off Macopin Road. While officers were en route, the caller advised that a female resident had re-entered the apartment in an attempt to retrieve her cats.

Upon arrival, officers encountered heavy smoke conditions coming from the residence. Officers immediately breached the doorway and began calling out for the resident to exit the apartment. As officers attempted to make entry, they were quickly overtaken by heavy black smoke, making conditions unsafe and preventing further access to the interior. For their safety, officers were forced to retreat from the apartment.

Shortly thereafter, the Bloomingdale Fire Department arrived on scene and was advised that a resident remained trapped inside. Firefighters breached a window, successfully rescued one cat, and later located the unresponsive resident inside the apartment. The resident was removed from the building by Bloomingdale FD and immediately treated on scene by Tri-Boro First Aid Squad and Atlantic ALS personnel. The resident was later transported by Hackensack Meridian Helicopter to Saint Barnabas Medical Center for further medical treatment.

During the incident, four deceased cats were also located inside the apartment. All five cats were taken into the custody of Bloomingdale Animal Control.

Additionally, three Bloomingdale Police Department officers were transported to Chilton Hospital for evaluation and treatment related to smoke inhalation sustained while attempting to rescue the resident.

The Bloomingdale Police Department would like to thank all responding agencies for their swift response and assistance during this, including the Bloomingdale Fire Department, Butler Police Department, Butler Fire Department, Riverdale Police Department, Riverdale Fire Department,Kinnelon Fire Department, West Milford Fire Department, Wanaque Fire Department, Pompton Lakes Fire Department, Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, Pompton/Riverdale EMS, Atlantic ALS, Morris County EMS, Bloomingdale Fire Ladies Auxiliary and Hackensack Meridian Helicopter.

RFD participated in the Riverdale Memorial Day Parade followed by a service at Borough Hall today, to pay their respects to the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country. The Mayor, Council, and Committee did a wonderful job organizing the event.

The Riverdale Memorial Day Parade will be Monday, May 25th starting at 10am. The parade will start on Newark Pompton Turnpike at Greenwich Street / Arlington Place, ending
at Riverdale Borough Hall (91 Newark Pompton Turnpike). Newark Pompton Turnpike will be closed from 9:30am to approximately 11:00am.

At the conclusion of the parade, there will be a ceremony in front of Borough Hall to honor the brave men and woman who have given so much for our country. 🇺🇸
