Fraudulent Calls Impersonating Sheriff's Office Demanding Money

We want to remind everyone that law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone for any reason, including to clear a warrant or avoid arrest. These scams are designed to intimidate and exploit individuals into handing over large sums of money.

What to Do If You Receive a Suspicious Call:

1. Hang up immediately. Do not engage with the caller or provide any personal or financial information.
2. Call your local non-emergency line to report the incident. 209-552-2468.
3. Educate others. Share this warning with family, friends, and neighbors to help prevent them from becoming victims.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and skeptical of any unsolicited calls requesting payment or personal information.

Deputies with Riverbank Police Services recently investigated a reckless driving incident that resulted in the arrest of the driver involved. The driver, who is also the registered owner of the vehicle, was released from custody and retrieved the vehicle prior to the issuance of a seizure warrant.

Following the investigation, motor deputies prepared a vehicle seizure warrant, which was subsequently reviewed and signed by a judge. Deputies later located the vehicle parked in front of the owner’s residence and carried out the warrant, seizing the vehicle for a period of 30 days.

Riverbank Police Services reminds the public that reckless driving poses a serious threat to community safety and will not be tolerated. Deputies will continue to take strong enforcement action to hold violators accountable.

Riverbank Police Services has seen a significant increase in safety concerns involving electric motorcycles (e-motos) and electric bicycles (e-bikes). We’re asking for your help in sharing this information in hopes to educate riders and keep our community safe.

pov: you’re on your phone and a deputy pulls up. 😳

Distracted driving is a leading cause of preventable collisions and poses a serious threat to public safety; any activity that diverts attention from operating a vehicle such as texting or using a mobile device is both dangerous and unlawful. We urge all drivers to remain fully attentive, obey traffic laws, and prioritize safe driving practices to protect themselves, their passengers, and the community.

A special thank you to Riverbank Councilmember Stacy Call for volunteering as our “distracted driver” participant, we know that with our proactive traffic unit in Riverbank, this is something you’d never do on the road.
