River Oaks Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting
RIVER OAKS, TX — On September 7th, 2026, at approximately 9:28 pm, River Oaks Police Department officers responded to a call regarding a suicidal subject in the 900 block of Yale St.
Upon arrival, responding officers encountered an adult male subject. During the encounter, the subject retrieved a handgun from inside the residence before returning to the front yard where he failed to comply with verbal commands and presented an immediate threat when he aimed the handgun at responding officers, leading the two responding officers to discharge their fi****ms, striking the subject.
Officers immediately secured the scene and administered emergency medical aid until the River Oaks Fire Department arrived. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No officers sustained physical injuries during the incident.
In accordance with departmental policy and standard operating procedure for officer-involved shootings, the Texas Rangers (Texas Department of Public Safety) and the Tarrant County District
Attorney Offices’ Officer Involved Shooting Team have been notified and will conduct an independent investigation into the incident, alongside an internal administrative review by the River Oaks Police Department.
The officers involved have been placed on standard paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
This remains an active, ongoing investigation. Additional details, including the identity of the subject and the involved officers are being withheld pending family notifications and preliminary findings.
