Part of the daily animal care at Trailside is making sure the animals and their homes are in good condition, which includes the surrounding areas. Earlier today during cleaning, staff noticed a large tree right next to the Turkey Vulture exhibit that is badly cracked, most likely due to the recent storms we have had. To ensure the safety of our animals and patrons, we have closed the pathway to the animal enclosures and the walking path behind the fence along the south side of the nature center. We are very thankful for the crews that assess these trees and make our grounds safe for all. We hope to have the pathways back open tomorrow.

For Morticia the Turkey Vulture, we always have animal welfare at the front of mind, so she has been moved indoors to a holding area behind the scenes while the tree is still a hazard. She is content indoors, and still has space to spread her wings and get plenty of attention from staff at Trailside.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to get our pathways open and get Morticia back to her outdoor home.
