Dog park memberships and 2026–2027 equestrian licenses are available, unlocking even more ways to enjoy the Forest Preserves together.

Looking for something unique to do tomorrow? Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary at the Newberry Library with a day of history, conversation, and discovery.

Explore the exhibition Free and Independent: The Declaration of Independence and the Words That Made the United States, featuring rare artifacts including a 1776 printing of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson’s copy of The Federalist, and handwritten drafts by John Jay.

At 2 p.m., join Harvard professor and bestselling author Danielle Allen and Museum of the American Revolution President Scott Stephenson for a conversation on the history and lasting impact of the Declaration of Independence, followed by a book signing.

Plus, stop by Washington Square Park to see a hand-sewn replica of George Washington’s Revolutionary War dining tent and enjoy free family-friendly programming throughout the day.

Cue the “aww,” it’s baby animal season here in Cook County! While it’s exciting to spot a baby bunny or a fledgling bird, well-meaning "rescues" can often do more harm than good.

Most young wildlife found alone aren't orphaned; their parents are simply nearby, foraging for food or watching from a distance.

Keep these tips in mind before you step in:

- Observe from a distance

🚲👮 It’s not a blue jay, it’s a bike patrol.

In their stylish blue uniforms, Forest Preserves police are trading patrol cars for bikes, rolling right into the places people walk, ride and explore.

It’s a more personal, more visible way to keep trails safe and welcoming. You might spot them around the next bend, ready to help with anything from directions to a flat tire.
