Today at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies and other law enforcement agencies from our area and surrounding communities came together for a special luncheon graciously provided by several community members and local businesses in appreciation of law enforcement service, during National Police Week.

We are truly grateful for the kindness, thoughtfulness, and continued support our community shows to those who serve. Gestures like this remind all of us how fortunate we are to work in a community that stands behind its law enforcement professionals.

We also want to thank those who wished to attend but were unable due to other commitments, yet still took the time to reach out and ask that their gratitude be shared for the public support shown to law enforcement, especially during National Police Week.

To all those currently working in the field, please know your service matters. You are needed, appreciated, and supported throughout our area and surrounding communities.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today possible and to all who continue to support the men and women who serve each day.

This afternoon, Washington State Representative Michael Baumgartner came to Ritzville for a town hall meeting and then took time to tour the Adams County Jail.

We greatly appreciate Representative Baumgartner and his continued support for Adams County at the federal level. His assistance in helping secure funding for the soon-to-begin remodel of our jail has been a tremendous blessing to our community and will help us move toward a safer and more effective facility for both inmates and staff.

We are looking forward to the start of this important project in the coming months and will continue working hard to improve staffing levels so we can eventually operate a safer and more efficient jail for everyone involved.

Thank you, Representative Baumgartner, for taking the time to visit Adams County and for your commitment to assisting our community. Your support is truly appreciated.

This week, May 10 through May 16, we recognize National Police Week, with Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 serving as a time of special remembrance for officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

National Police Week is a time to honor the courage, commitment, and service of law enforcement professionals across our nation, those who put on the badge each day and answer the call to protect their communities.

It is also a solemn opportunity to remember the fallen, support the families they left behind, and recognize the dedication of those who continue to serve with integrity, professionalism, and heart.

Here in Adams County, we are proud of the men and women who serve our communities, on patrol, in corrections, in dispatch, and in every support role that helps keep our county safe. Their sacrifice often comes quietly, through long hours, missed family time, difficult calls, and unwavering commitment to service above self.

To all law enforcement professionals, past and present: thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your service. We are grateful for all you do.

Last evening, the Adams County Deputies Association demonstrated once again what service to community truly means by investing in the future of one of our outstanding young citizens. It was an honor to see the Association award a $1,000 scholarship to Yunuen Mejia in support of her college education.

Yunuen’s hard work and dedication have set her apart. As a student at Othello High School, she has maintained an impressive 3.84 GPA while also remaining actively involved in community service, showing a commitment not only to her own success, but to making a positive difference in the lives of others. She represents the very best of what our community has to offer, and there is no doubt she has a bright future ahead.

A special thank you to the Adams County Deputies Association for their continued generosity and commitment to serving our community beyond the badge. Their investment in our youth reflects their deep belief in education, service, and the importance of supporting the next generation of leaders. Acts like this strengthen our community and create opportunities that will have a lasting impact for years to come.

Congratulations, Yunuen, on this well-deserved recognition. Adams County is proud of you, and we wish you great success in all that lies ahead.
