Andrew is sad. Andrew is standing in the freezer with an empty bucket. Andrew says we still are in desperate need of meat donations. Can you help Andrew and the animals at Red Wolf Sanctuary ? Any frozen, non-seasoned meat, chicken, fish, turkey, deer, bison, etc. Come on!!! Clean out those freezers. Have a neighborhood freezer clean out. Get the kids involved. Ask grandma if she really thinks she'll ever cook that roast! Our animals have no idea that those steaks have been in there for 2 years! We hate to purchase meat. Meat costs money. Can you help us out? Andrew is walking around with that empty bucket and it's depressing. He's been talking about how plump our bunny, Mavis, is looking. That's all I'm gonna say. Thank you in advance for your generous meat donations. We'll tell Andrew that it's on its way!!

BTW.....We DO pick up roadkill deer if it's not too far away. Please message us with any NEW (fresh) deer spotted on the side of the road with a good location. If you aren't SURE that is was hit less than 2 days ago, PLEASE do not inform us. We appreciate the roadkill tips, but we have also driven quite a distance for what we can only describe as deer porridge (sorry for the visual). Thanks again for helping us out!!

NOW, THAT'S WHAT WE LIKE TO SEE!!
Our rehab Great Horned Owl (nickname-Little Miss Murder Mittens) was found in a wooded area, not flying. She was moved up to the flight floor of the rehab barn, to see if she just needed a little more room. As you can see, she is flying and rounding corners (YAY) but she is still weak, so she will be staying at the OWLBNB for a little longer. It's OK, sweetheart, this all-inclusive stay is on us!!

We don't see a lot of these come through the doors of Red Wolf Sanctuary.

FREE BIRD!!!
This red tailed hawk was not in good shape when it was found a few weeks ago on a property close to the sanctuary. The woman who owns the property said that it had a mate. Fast forward to today and this hawk flew out of the release window and in the exact direction of the property. The owner said she thinks it flew home to its mate after seeing one circle overhead just a short while later. I wish we could have captured that reunion. That's what it's all about.

Two more additions to our educational enclosures have been moved in....a Barred owl and our crow. Talk about some spoiled birds!! The are soooo worth it. If they have to stay with us, they might as well get the Gucci treatment!!

IN SQUIRREL NEWS......
This little one came in to Red Wolf still needing to be fed with a syringe. One of our volunteers has been taking great care of him, getting him fat, happy, and ready for release. That's always our goal, but it doesn't keep us from falling in love with those adorable little squirrel faces!!

Hey Everyone!! Time to do some Spring cleaning...... of your freezers. We are running low on meat and whenever we ask, you always come through for us. Non-seasoned, uncooked meat and chicken and turkey . If you have pork, we'll take it and pitch what we can't use. Please call 812-438-2306 or message us on FB to let us know when you will be dropping off. We are all over the sanctuary this time of year and we want to make sure we don't miss you. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY???
Please don't kill my parents. I can't live without them.
I didn't know that frolicking outside gave you permission to trap me.
Please don't call rehabbers to pick me up because you have chickens.

Fox kits are being seen all over the area. They choose sheds and culvert pipes in suburban areas because it keeps their kits safe from larger predators. Once the kits are big enough, they will move on. Indiana law states that you may shoot a fox if it is killing your chickens EXCEPT when they are denning with kits. When you shoot a fox with kits, you are breaking the law. When you trap healthy kits with parents, you are breaking the law. When you attempt to bury kits alive under your shed, you are breaking the law. Please do not call us to catch foxes that are attacking your chickens. We obviously can't keep track of every den in Indiana. We appreciate that you have chickens and want them safe. A fox also has the right to keep it's kits safe. They do not know that their biggest predator is humans. We would like to assume that people would do the right thing, but thats not always the case. Red Wolf Sanctuary IS NOT animal control. We help animals that have are sick, injured, or orphaned. Kidnapping baby foxes and bringing them to us because you have chickens is not acceptable and not legal. If you have chickens, PLEASE look up the laws in Indiana before destroying a fox family. It's just the right thing to do. People can pay for animal control, but it's not convenient. We are not animal control. We appreciate calls from people who are concerned about the welfare of a fox family. It is surprising to see them in busy neighborhoods. They are there to keep their babies safe. Watch from a safe distance and enjoy the cute show!! Take pictures! Fox kits are stinkin' adorable!! When they are big enough, mama will move on and that's when responsible homeowners should fortify their sheds and porches to make them useless for animals next year. Happy Spring, everyone!! Let the festival of fuzziness begin!! If you have adorable spring baby pics of any kind, you are welcome to share them here.

DON'T WATCH ME EATING!!!
Can you stand it!!! This Great Horned Owl is hopefully with us for just a short while, but she has such a giant personality (and giant murder mittens)! This is a plump bird! She's eating like a champ and she looks very healthy, but she just doesn't seem to want to fly. A lot of the time, they just need time and that's what we're going to give her....and a lot of mousy treats!! If we didn't know anything about owls we might think she's too heavy to fly!! Such a puffy muppet!! We'll keep ya posted!!

LOOK AT THOSE MURDER MITTENS!!!
This gorgeous Great Horned Owl came to us from a backyard in Versailles. She had been spotted in a wooded area, not moving much, and certainly not attempting to fly. There are no obvious signs of injury, but she has some inflammation on her foot pads. Some of our staff went to get her and she's back at Red Wolf resting comfortably with a bit of food and water. She's a good size and healthy weight, so hopefully her recovery will be quick. We'll keep you posted !!
