🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸

Today, the Rio Vista Fire Department remembers September 11, 2001 — a day that forever changed our nation.

We honor the 2,977 innocent lives lost, including the 343 members of the FDNY, the 23 NYPD & 37 Port Authority Police who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to serve others.

We also remember the countless firefighters, police officers, paramedics, dispatchers, military members, and civilians who ran toward danger when others were running away.

Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to their fellow Americans continue to inspire generations of first responders.

Today, and every day, we remember those who never made it home, those who answered the call, and the families who continue to carry their loss.

We remember.
We honor.
We will never forget.

🔥Fire Summary🔥

Last night crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash that simultaneously caused a grass fire.

The grass fire was able to be contained and mopped up at approximately 1.5 acres affected.

Crews were able to stop the fire prior to any structural involvement.

A big shout out to Triple B RV Storage for the design of their property as it provided phenomenal defensible area. The gravel going beyond the storage areas as well as properly maintained landscaping helped tremendously in our ability to stop the fire front.

🚨The community can help!🚨

A couple of tips for our community members in response from this event:

Please do not park in front of fire hydrants.
We have limited access to hydrants and this may be our only source of water to save property and/or lives.

Adjacent roadways may be blocked or inaccessible during fire attack and mop up. We try our best to keep roadways open, but we also have to access the fireground & this may cause a slight delay in you being able to travel an adjacent roadway. We will never block a roadway without reason to do so.

Proper maintenance of your property goes a long way in our crews being able to stop a fire from continuing to grow. Tall unmaintained grass provides a better fuel source for the fire than short maintained grass does.

Bonus points: We also have an event coming up where you can come out and show your support for our crews while also providing opportunities for future first responders!

Thanks for all of the praise for our crews doing what they needed to do in order to stop this fire from growing or involving structures!

🔥Scholarship Recipient Highlight!🔥

This year we decided to do something a little different with one of our applicants.

Luke Stewart sent in an application and I’ve got to say that he was very meticulous in submitting everything that we ask for. He was thorough in his essay, he was thoughtful with his words and didn’t miss a beat throughout.

There was something that caught our eye, though. Luke isn’t going into a field that we typically award The RVFD Hutchison Scholarship for. He’ll be attending Texas Tech University for accounting.

With that said, attached to Luke’s application was a letter of recommendation from Cleburne Fire Department Chief Scott Lail.

As I dug further into Luke’s application I discovered that his father Ryan has been with Cleburne Fire Department for 27 years and is currently an Engineer & Paramedic. Beyond that, Luke’s mother Davina has been an Emergency Department Nurse at Texas Health Resources Cleburne for 27 years.

Now I’m no accountant myself, but that’s a combined 54 years of service to their community. (I used a calculator)

Our scholarship committee sat down and discussed Luke’s application after careful review we decided that his parents’ dedicated service to their community far outweighs the stipulation of him going into a first responder field.

Due to this, we’ve updated our application and will be carefully reviewing applicants who may not align perfectly but have parents who have spent their life’s work serving others.

I’m not at all trying to say that Luke’s parents earned him this scholarship.

This young man has been extremely active in and out of school. He has a phenomenal GPA, has extensive volunteer service including volunteering with Chisholm Trail 100 Club and Cleburne Pipes & Drums amongst plenty of others. He graduated Top 3% of his class, was first team academic all star for football, basketball, and golf. He was also involved in National Honor Society and BETA Club.

This young man has quite the resume already & we’re sure will make a fantastic example for The RVFD Hutchison Scholarship recipients for years to come.

Congrats again, Luke!

I KNOW one of y’all’s Paw Paw’s or husbands is going to want to light that pile on fire this weekend because a FEW got what is probably considered rain.. (I got .02 in west Joshua)

Please tell them don’t do it or “you’ll call the Fire Marshal”. 😜

Before Sunday those places that got a bit of rain will be ready to burn again. I’m sorry, that’s just how one-hour fuels work. One hour after getting moisture those grasses can burn.

It won’t be too much longer until we have a pattern change that will allow the County Judge to lift the Burn Restrictions.
