🌊 Water Rescue Team Growth Continues🚤

This week, two of our members successfully earned their Swiftwater Rescue Technician certification through Rescue Training International. Congratulations to Firefighter/EMT Greg Ragon and Firefighter/EMT Brooke Hutchison!

Those two members, along with three others, will spend this weekend completing training to become Rescue Boat Technicians as well.

We would like to recognize and thank these members for their commitment to professional development and public safety.

Their willingness to dedicate personal time away from their families and busy schedules ensures that our department remains prepared to serve our community when it matters most.

With the completion of this training, our department will have:

•1 Swiftwater Rescue Awareness personnel
•4 Swiftwater Rescue Operations personnel
•10 Swiftwater Rescue Technicians
•8 Rescue Boat Technicians

This means that more than half of our current department roster will hold water rescue certifications at some level, significantly strengthening our emergency response capabilities.

We are proud of the progress our water rescue program has made and look forward to continuing to build a highly trained team capable of serving our community and neighboring agencies whenever called upon.

Another water rescue executed successfully on Sunday evening. Big thanks to Game Warden Kyle Burch, JCSO & Bono VFD - Station 70. The individuals were spotted, a launch site was discovered & this rescue went off without a hitch.

This marks a historical moment as this is RVFD’s first ever swiftwater rescue utilizing an inflatable rescue boat. Additional thanks to Johnson County Emergency Services District No. 1 for supporting our team and providing training as well as equipment.

We’re a little late on posting, but it’s been a busy week! RVFD & CFD were able to successfully execute the rescue of an individual stuck in their vehicle in swift water.

Remember: Water over a roadway is difficult to gauge even for trained professionals, roadways wash out, culverts collapse, debris gathers, etc. PLEASE turn around & don’t risk it.

More members of our department receiving swift water training. It will be great to have 2 more techs on the roster.
