Congratulations to Jim and Shirley Lira and the entire Lira family on being named the 2026 “Delta Improver” by the Delta Leadership Foundation!
During Thursday night’s Delta Champions awards banquet at the Delta Diamond Farm, Jim reflected on growing up in Rio Vista—from working on his family’s dairy farm, milking cows by hand and delivering milk at age 13, to working at Don Quick, the beloved grocery store owned by the Podesto family. When Don Quick closed, Jim stepped up to open Lira’s Supermarket. Today, the store remains a true family affair, run alongside their children and their spouses.
The Liras' generosity to our town over the decades is immeasurable. Thank you, Lira family, for anchoring our community and keeping Rio Vista fed and supported.

The crew of the Relentless—Don, Max, and Allyson Jeffries—absolutely crushed it out on the Sacramento River near Rio Vista yesterday, landing these absolute beauties. It’s safe to say this crew knows a thing or two about finding fish… they’ve landed in the Derby winner’s circle more than a few times over the years! 🏆

Delta Businesses:
The California Delta Chambers and Visitors Bureau had a nice mixer at the Old Sugar Mill this week. It was to see everyone and make connections. I had a nice sunset ride back to Rio Vista. 🥰
