Appointments for Free Tax Prep are now available! Our VITA volunteers provide free tax return preparation for individuals and families whose income is less than $70,000 a year. We deal with simple returns at our sites. Services are offered by appointment only at two locations, the Ocean City Arts Center and the Lower Cape Senior Center. The NJ 2024 Form PAS-1 application can be used by resident homeowners, mobile home owners and renters age 65 and over – and those who are receiving federal Social Security Disability benefits. The combined application applies for the following programs: Property Tax Reimbursement (Senior Freeze); Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR); and Stay NJ. The deadline to file is October 31, 2025.

Complete the NJ 2024 Form PAS-1 ONLY if:
• You or your spouse/CU partner were 65 or older on December 31, 2024, OR
• You or your spouse/CU partner were receiving Social Security Disability on December 31, 2023, and December 31, 2024.

You may file the combined application yourself online. The advantages of filing online are that you will receive a reference number after filing and be able to sign up for a direct deposit. Get started by visiting the NJ website at https://www.nj.gov/treasury/taxation/relief.shtml

The Cape May County Division of Aging and Disability Services will host a Medicare Open Enrollment presentation open to the public on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC) Cape May Court House Campus, Main Entrance.

This presentation led by Donna Boyle, the Cape May County State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Coordinator, will provide vital information on upcoming changes to Medicare Prescription Drug Plans and Medicare Advantage Plans for 2026.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:
• Learn about key updates to Medicare coverage
• Ask general Medicare-related questions
• Understand how recent legislation, including the Inflation Reduction Act, may impact coverage and costs

“Medicare Open Enrollment is the one time each year when beneficiaries can review and make changes to their prescription and Advantage plans,” said Donna Boyle. “With significant changes continuing under the Inflation Reduction Act, it's more important than ever to stay informed and ensure you have the right coverage for your needs.”

SHIP offers free, objective, and confidential help to Medicare beneficiaries who need assistance with their health insurance. The Medicare Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15 to December 7, 2025. Individual consultations are not provided during the presentation but can be scheduled with a SHIP counselor by calling 609-886-8138.

Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, and interested members of the public are encouraged to attend.

We had a great day yesterday at the 49th Annual Senior Art Show. This special event celebrates the incredible creativity, talent, and artistic expression of our senior community.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Atlantic Cape Community College for generously providing this beautiful venue and assisting with the event set-up. We also offer our sincere appreciation to the staff of the Cape May County Park & Zoo for their support in providing transportation for our participants and guests. A special thank you as well to our judges, who generously donated their time and expertise to evaluate the outstanding artwork on display.

Best of luck to all of our first-place winners as they advance to represent Cape May County in the New Jersey State Senior Art Show! We are proud of your accomplishments and wish you great success at the state level.
