Below is the monthly tally for Police Department activity for May 2026.

We continue to navigate various challenges as the busier summer months approach. Our speed sign data collection program is temporarily halted as we proceed with obtaining a quote to repair the intentional damage that occurred last week.

Public Information/Update: We have been forced to take Unit #2, a 2017 Ford Explorer with nearly 110K miles, out of the patrol rotation due to numerous mechanical issues and safety concerns. It is currently undergoing an evaluation for the purpose of obtaining a repair quote and to determine if repairs are fiscally responsible and mechanically possible. Wednesday, June 3rd, we will be proposing the purchase of a replacement cruiser to the Board of Selectmen, by utilizing re-allocated funds within the current police department default budget. Please feel free to attend, in person or virtually, to view our presentation.

We have also been receiving several inquiries about E-Bikes/Electric Bicycles. We posted some information yesterday and are continuing to research the NH rules and regulations in hopes of releasing a more detailed document in the coming days.

As always, please feel free to call directly with any items of concern or with any questions you may have.

Section 265:144-a Electric Bicycles.

New Hampshire E-Bike Laws 2026: Class 3 Path Limits

Motorized Bicycle Laws in New Hampshire: quick answer

• Electric bicycle definition: A pedaled vehicle with an electric motor of less than 750 watts that fits New Hampshire's class 1, 2, or 3 rules.
• E-bike license/registration/title: New Hampshire says electric bicycles are not subject to driver's licenses, registration, certificates of title, license plates, or financial responsibility under Title XXI.
• Class 1 and 2 path access: Usually allowed anywhere bicycles are allowed, unless a city, town, or state agency prohibits them on a specific bicycle or multi-use path.
• Class 3 rule: Class 3 e-bikes cannot use a bicycle or multi-use path unless it is within or adjacent to a roadway or the local authority allows them.
• Class 3 - age/helmet/speedometer: NO rider under 16 may operate a class 3 e-bike; riders and passengers under 18 on class 3 bikes must wear a qualifying bicycle helmet; class 3 bikes need a speedometer.

***Rindge does not have a local ordinance related to E-Bikes***

If you have questions about whether your classification of bike is lawful to ride on roads/trails for you OR for your children, please call the Rindge Police Department at (603) 899-5009 or reach us through Cheshire County Dispatch at (603) 355-2000.

Remember that good judgment and basic bike safety are the most important factors.

On May 22, 2026, at approximately 3:37pm, the Rindge Police responded to a single motor vehicle crash at the rear West of the Border. When responding units arrived, it was learned that the crash involved a vehicle roll over with entrapment and airbag deployment.
The driver would be extracted from his vehicle using the Jaws of Life with the assistance of Rindge Fire & Rescue, Jaffrey Fire Department and Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance Service. The driver was then transported via Life flight, to UMASS Worcester for non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.

Data from the speed sign that was deployed on Main Street near Brigham Road from May 3rd through May 15th.

**This data package provides additional valuable information to the PD. In addition to providing total traffic volume, it breaks down the days and times that have the most traffic and the highest speeds. This allows for more effective directed patrols throughout town. We will continue to deploy the speed signs throughout town in the coming months. Data is now being collected on Cathedral Road.

Thank you again to the Rindge donor who made purchasing this data package possible for the 2026 calendar year!
