Riggins Fire had a little vehicle extrication refresher today. It's always nice to fine tune our skills in a non stress environment that way we are always ready for when it really counts. Great work from all the guys, especially Xander Walker who joined us today for the first time. He's a local high school student that is interested in the fire service. Also thanks to Matthew Partridge who donated a vehicle for us to use.

So much fun today learning about fire safety with all the kiddo's! One of the Chief's favorite days of the year! They always love the fire gear and crawling under the "smoke."

Another sad day in Idaho, Rest Easy...

GRANGEVILLE, Idaho – Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) firefighter Isabella Oscarson, a seasonal employee from Minnesota, died Friday evening after being struck by a falling tree earlier that day while assisting with the U.S. Forest Service’s Tinker Bugs prescribed fire in the Nez Perce–Clearwater National Forests.

Oscarson was evacuated from the scene and flown to Grangeville, where she succumbed to her injuries.

“IDL extends its deepest sympathies to Isabella’s family and friends. This is a tragedy that hits the employees at Idaho Department of Lands and the broader wildland fire community extremely hard,” said Dustin Miller, Director of IDL. “We are heartbroken and doing everything we can to support her family and our staff during this difficult time.”

Service information has not yet been released.

If you're in town today around noon don't be alarmed if you hear our siren on top of the station. We have to test it every once in a while. Today we are going to set it off at 12 to signal a 10 minute warning for the start of the parade. The parade will start at 12:10 to allow the elementary school students to finish lunch and attend.

Today we honor the first responders who gave their all. Gone but never forgotten.

Today we honor the first responders who gave their all. Gone but never forgotten.

Update: Starting at 12:10 so the students can participate.

Tomorrow at noon, our fire department and ambulance will parade down Main Street in remembrance of the lives lost and the brave first responders who gave everything on 9/11. 🇺🇸 We do this annually.

This year, the emotions run even deeper given the challenges facing our country. We invite everyone to step outside, and line Main Street. Bring your American flag and wave it proudly—if you don’t have one, just come and stand with us.

Let’s come together as a community to honor, remember, and remind the world that America stands strong.

We will leave the station, go to city Park, return down to Bluetick and return to the station.ay

🔴🔴🔴Riggins Red Dot Program🔴🔴🔴

The red dot program was started in the late 60's to save the lives of children in an emergency. Although its origins have been lost, many cities across the U.S. have pushed this program since the early 70's. The theory is simple. A red sticker applied to their bedroom window. When the fire department responds to an emergency call ( fire, smoke, gas leak, etc) their first action is to survey the building from all sides; in an instant a firefighter will see the reflective red dot and know that is a child's room and an immediate search area.
We've also extended this program for elderly and disabled residents as well. Like our yellow dot program this is a free service to all residents in our community. Stop by city hall or our station and pick yours up today. There are instructions on the back for sticker placement. When seconds matter, help us get your loved ones out safely!

Are you familiar with Idaho's Yellow Dot Program? The Idaho Yellow Dot program assists emergency medical responders and law enforcement in reporting critical medical information in the event of a motor vehicle accident when a person is unable to communicate for themselves. By participating in this program, it can mean the difference between life and death in the "golden hour" after a serious injury or medical emergency. Its a simple form that you keep in your glove box, if you are interested in having one please stop by the station or city hall and pick up a yellow dot envelope free of charge!
