Our Story
The Rifle Police Department K9 program began in July of 2010. Tulo, was the first K9 member of the department and was paired with Officer G. Duncan. K9 Tulo is currently 10 years old and an 8 year veteran of the department. Tulo is trained/certified in Sent Detection and Tracking. Tulo and Officer G. Duncan had thousands of hours of training with hundreds of deployments thrown in the mix. K9 Tulo is set to retire in the early part of 2019 after completing almost 9 years of service to the Community of Rifle.
During the Fall of 2017, K9 Jax and K9 Makai joined the department. With donations collected by a local 4H member, Carter, 8 week old puppies, Jax and Makai, were purchased. K9 Jax was paired with Officer J. Bartunek and K9 Makai was paired with Officer G. Duncan. Since then, Jax and Makai have grown and been working on their training. Jax and Makai will replace Tulo in the early part of 2019.
