As part of Ridgewood Water’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality drinking water and maintaining reliable infrastructure, we will soon begin a major water main improvement project along Glen Avenue, from Highwood Avenue in Midland Park to Oak Street in Ridgewood.

The project will include replacing and upsizing aging water mains, as well as replacing water service connections, all within the public right-of-way. Homes within the construction area will be connected to a temporary above-ground water system while work is underway. Montana Construction, Inc., the project contractor, will notify affected homeowners in advance before their water service is transferred to the temporary system.

Construction is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, September 21, 2026, starting in Midland Park, and is expected to be completed in four to six months. Work will take place on weekdays between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Because this is a significant infrastructure project, traffic delays, detours and periodic road closures are expected. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. Residents who live within the active construction area will continue to have access to their homes, and streets will reopen at the end of each workday.

Once the new water mains are installed, Montana will contact individual homeowners before replacing the Ridgewood Water-owned portion of the water service line serving their property. The contractor also will restore driveways, sidewalks, lawn areas and other features disturbed by the construction. Final roadway paving is expected to take place in spring or summer 2027.

We recognize that a project of this size will cause temporary inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation while these important improvements are completed.

Please contact Ridgewood Water at 201-670-5520 if you have questions or need additional information.

Did you know that a leaking toilet can waste 200 gallons of water a day?

Be sure to check your toilets for leaks and make repairs promptly. One simple way to test for a leak is to place a few drops of food coloring in the toilet tank. If the color appears in the bowl without flushing, you likely have a leak.

Free leak-detection tablets are also available from Ridgewood Water. Call 201-670-5520 to request yours.

Choosing native plants instead of grass is a smart way to create a healthier, more sustainable yard. Consider this:

- Native plants are adapted to our local climate and soil, so they need less watering, fertilizer, pesticides and maintenance once established.

- They provide essential food and shelter for pollinators, birds and other wildlife.

- Their roots help reduce erosion, absorb rainwater and filter pollutants, while the reduced need for fertilizers and pesticides helps keep waterways cleaner.

- Native plants aren't just for wildflower meadows. They can work well in foundation beds, borders, ground covers, woodland gardens and more.

For more information about plants native to New Jersey, visit jerseyyards.org or npsnj.org.
