Town of Ridgeland Voluntary Water Conservation Requested Due to Severe Drought Conditions
The Town of Ridgeland Water Department is asking all water customers to voluntarily reduce water usage as the area continues to experience severe drought conditions.

While the Town’s water system remains capable of meeting current demand, ongoing dry weather and declining groundwater recharge levels make conservation efforts critical to protecting the water supply and maintaining system reliability for essential uses such as drinking water, fire protection, healthcare facilities and public safety. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has declared a “Severe Drought” status for all 46 counties.

As requested by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Town is requesting that all residents, businesses and industries take reasonable steps to reduce unnecessary water consumption until conditions improve.

Recommended Water Conservation Measures:

All customers are encouraged to consider the following voluntary conservation practices:

• Limit lawn irrigation and outdoor watering.
• Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day to reduce evaporation.
• Water lawns only when necessary.
• Use a broom or blower instead of a water hose to clean driveways and sidewalks.
• Delay washing vehicles unless absolutely necessary.
• Repair leaking faucets, toilets and outdoor spigots promptly.
• Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
• Take shorter showers and avoid unnecessary water use indoors.
• Turn off faucets while brushing teeth or shaving.
• Avoid filling swimming pools or decorative fountains during drought conditions.
• Restaurants are encouraged to serve water only upon request.
• Businesses should review operations for opportunities to reduce water usage.
• Even small reductions in water usage across our community can significantly help preserve available water resources during prolonged dry conditions.

The Town of Ridgeland Water Department will continue monitoring drought conditions closely and will provide updates if additional conservation measures become necessary.

The Town appreciates the cooperation and support of its residents and businesses during this period of severe drought.

The Ridgeland Police Department is proud to announce its recognition through the SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Excellence) Designation, becoming one of the few law enforcement agencies in South Carolina, and first in Jasper County, to receive this distinction.

Traditionally awarded to medical facilities, the SAFE Designation recognizes an agency’s commitment to survivor-centered care, trauma-informed investigations, compassionate response, and proper evidence preservation in sexual assault cases.

This designation reflects the Ridgeland Police Department’s dedication to reducing trauma for survivors while enhancing the quality of care, investigative practices, and evidence collection throughout the investigative process.

The SAFE Designation was developed through a partnership between the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN), the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the South Carolina Hospital Association.
