We know why Ridgefield families may keep bedroom doors open at night. But when it comes to fire safety, a closed door can make a life-saving difference.

A closed door can drastically slow the spread of fire, smoke, heat and carbon monoxide giving you more time to wake up and escape

Before going to sleep, close bedroom doors and make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working.

If there’s a fire: Get out, stay out and call 911. Never go back inside.

STOP THE BLEED® TRAINING — AUGUST 15
Severe bleeding can become life-threatening in minutes. Knowing what to do before emergency responders arrive can make a critical difference.
The Ridgefield Fire Department is hosting a hands-on STOP THE BLEED® training program on August 15 at 10:30 AM at Fire Headquarters.
Participants will learn how to:
Recognize life-threatening bleeding
Apply direct pressure and wound-packing techniques
Properly use a tourniquet
Take immediate action during a bleeding emergency
Instruction will be provided by certified STOP THE BLEED® instructor and neuroradiologist Dr. Steven J. Sherry of Aegis Defense Concepts, LLC.
No medical experience is required. This program is designed for members of the public who want practical skills they can use when seconds matter.

🚒 THE RIDGEFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT IS HIRING! 🚑

The Town of Ridgefield is now accepting applications for Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic positions.

We’re looking for experienced EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters who want to join a progressive, all-hazards fire department providing fire suppression, rescue, and advanced life support EMS to the Ridgefield community.

Ridgefield offers the opportunity to work as part of an integrated fire-rescue-EMS team where our firefighters train together, respond together, and are expected to contribute across the full range of emergency services.

✅ Experienced Firefighter/EMTs
✅ Experienced Paramedics interested in becoming Firefighter/Paramedics
✅ Prior fire and paramedic experience receives additional consideration
✅ 24-hour shift schedule following training and orientation
✅ Competitive salary with credit for applicable experience

When seconds matter, teamwork matters.

At Ridgefield Fire & EMS, our career firefighter/EMTs and firefighter/paramedics train together so they can operate as one coordinated team during critical emergencies including cardiac arrest.

Our firefighter/EMTs are expanding their airway-management skills by training with the i-gel supraglottic airway device. Ridgefield EMS is proud to be the first service in the area to ensure that every firefighter and fire officer is trained to use these lifesaving tools and techniques.

By giving more responders the skills to establish and maintain an airway, our paramedics can focus on advanced treatment while the entire team works seamlessly toward one goal: giving every patient the best possible chance of survival.

The Ridgefield Fire Department welcomes Stephen Boals as its newest career Firefighter/EMT, effective July 15, 2026. Boals, a Ridgefield resident, previously volunteered with the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, earning his Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and EMT certifications. He was selected as the top candidate through an extensive search conducted by the CT Fire Department Hiring Consortium. Boals lives in Ridgefield with his wife, Delaney, and their two sons, Sullivan and McCoy. "We're excited to welcome Stephen as a career firefighter EMT," said Fire Chief Rommie Duckworth.

👀 Have you spotted a bright red Fire Department SUV around town?

Our existing Shift Commander vehicle, Car 6, just received a fresh new look with updated graphics and striping. It’s the same vehicle, now sporting a safer, more visible that better reflects today’s Ridgefield Fire Department.

The biggest improvements, however, are the ones you can’t see.

We're equipping Car 6 with a new mobile emergency command and firefighter accountability system, giving our Shift Commanders enhanced tools to manage emergency scenes, improve firefighter safety, and coordinate incidents more effectively.

So if you see this bright red SUV around town, give it a second look—it’s the same Car 6, just better equipped to serve the Ridgefield community.
