I'm proud to have taken part in the Town's GRADD flag raising today at Town Hall, led by the Ridgefield Police Department, Ridgefield Public Schools, and the Selectpersons.

GRADD works because people like the ones standing here today make it work. Students who look out for their friends. Parents who keep the lines of communication open. Teachers and faculty who invest in their students well beyond the classroom. And a Police Department that had the vision to build a program around care and prevention, and has kept it going year after year.

The fire department is proud to stand alongside all of you. Our job is to be there on the worst days, but what we really want is for there to be fewer worst days. Programs like this one help make that possible, and that matters to us.
I'm proud to have taken part in the Town's GRADD flag raising today at Town Hall, led by the Ridgefield Police Department and Ridgefield Public Schools.

As EMS Week 2026 comes to a close, the Ridgefield Fire Department is proud to celebrate not only the incredible work of our EMTs and paramedics here at home, but also the opportunity to share Ridgefield’s lifesaving programs on an international stage.

This week, Chief Rommie Duckworth joined Mike Brown and Dr. Shira Schlesinger on the JEMS “Save a Life Day” EMS Week podcast to discuss bystander CPR, bleeding control, Sidewalk CPR Week, and practical ways communities can save lives before first responders arrive.

These conversations reflect the work happening right here in Ridgefield every day, from public CPR education and opioid response initiatives to our nationally recognized cardiac arrest care and award-winning firefighter-paramedic program.

Thank you to all of our firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, police officers, healthcare partners, and community members (ESPECIALLY OUR HIGH SCHOOL VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTORS) who help make Ridgefield safer every day.

National EMS Week highlight! Ridgefield Fire Department is proud to announce that our firefighter/EMTs and paramedics have received the American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Award for the fourth consecutive year.

This national recognition honors excellence in the rapid recognition, treatment, and coordinated care of patients experiencing heart attacks, strokes, and cardiac arrest. It reflects the skill, professionalism, and dedication our crews bring to every emergency, every day, at every hour.

From high-performance CPR and early defibrillation to advanced cardiac and stroke care delivered directly in our community, our members work tirelessly to provide the highest level of emergency medical care possible when seconds matter most.

This achievement is not the result of one call, one crew, or one moment. It represents thousands of hours of training, teamwork, preparation, and commitment to clinical excellence.

We are incredibly proud of our firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and healthcare partners whose work helps save lives across Ridgefield every day.

Congratulations to all of the members of the Ridgefield Fire Department on this outstanding accomplishment. ❤️🚒🚑

TODAY IS NATIONAL "SAVE A LIFE DAY!"
EMS Week is about more than ambulances and firefighters. It’s about an entire community working together to save lives.

Every day, Ridgefield’s firefighter EMTs and paramedics respond when seconds matter most. But lifesaving care often begins before we arrive, with a family member, friend, coworker, or neighbor willing to step forward and help.

Programs like Hands-Only CPR, AED education, Narcan training, and Stop the Bleed empower ordinary people to make an extraordinary difference during emergencies. This program was started and is run by High School students volunteering their time with others to help you "Save A Life."

You do not need to be a firefighter or paramedic to save a life. By learning these simple skills, you can help protect your family, your friends, and your community.

Join us on SAVE A LIFE DAY this EMS Week in building a safer and more prepared Ridgefield. ❤️🚒🚑

EMS WEEK UPDATE! The Ridgefield Fire Department is proud to announce that Ridgefield has once again been recognized as a Heart Safe Community.

This recognition reflects a community-wide commitment to protecting lives from sudden cardiac arrest through education, preparedness, rapid emergency response, and public access to CPR and AEDs.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, to anyone. A truly heart-safe community is one where neighbors are prepared to act before first responders even arrive.d all community members who help make this possible every day.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, to anyone. A truly heart safe community is one where neighbors are prepared to act before first responders even arrive.

If you have ever learned CPR, used an AED, called 911 for someone in need, supported public safety, or encouraged others to get trained, you are part of this achievement.

Thank you, Ridgefield, for continuing to make our community safer, stronger, and more prepared to save lives together. ❤️🚒🚑d

This afternoon, Ridgefield Fire Department career and volunteer firefighters responded to a propane tank explosion and fire in the Barrack Hill area. Firefighters quickly deployed hose streams to cool the tank and prevent further damage while a Ridgefield paramedic evaluated the injured person. The tank continued to leak and burn due to an activated pressure relief valve, but our firefighters secured the tank, extinguished the flames, and the homeowners reoccupied the house.

EMS Week is about caring for our community in every way possible… including some of Ridgefield’s smallest residents. 🐥❤️🚒

Yesterday, Ridgefield firefighter Mike Gesmondi came to the rescue of this baby duck after it became separated from its family near the roadway. After a quick rescue and a little reassurance, the duckling was safely reunited away from danger.

From medical emergencies and fires to the unexpected calls that make this job special, our firefighters are always ready to help.

Happy EMS Week to all of the men and women who serve with compassion every day.

For nearly 88 years, the Ridgefield Fire Department has answered not only the call to fight fires, but also the call for emergency medical care.

From our first ambulance response in 1938 to today’s integrated firefighter-paramedic system, Ridgefield’s firefighters continue a proud tradition of protecting the health and safety of our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

During EMS Week 2026, we recognize the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of our firefighter EMTs and paramedics who respond to thousands of emergencies each year and provide advanced lifesaving care when our community needs it most.

Thank you to all of Ridgefield’s EMS professionals, past and present, for 88 years of service to our town. 🚒❤️🚑
