Twenty-five years ago, our nation suffered a series of devastating attacks. The attacks on our nation not only had a global effect on the world, but on towns and villages like our own. Every year since, we gather to remember and never forget the innocent lives lost and the heroic actions taken to save complete strangers on that fateful day.

The department remembers our own:

Leonard W. Hatton Jr. - Ladder Co. 1 - Badge 36 - 9/11/01 - The only FBI Agent who selflessly made the ultimate sacrifice to help occupants to safety alongside New York City’s Bravest.

Harry F. Graves - Engine Co. 1 - Badge 6 - 11/29/10 - Involved in the immediate recovery efforts at the site of the trade center, passed after battling illness due to 9/11 cancer.

Gerard M. Cumminskey - Engine Co. 4 - Badge 116 - 3/16/11 - Involved in the immediate recovery efforts at the site of the trade center, passed after battling illness due to 9/11 cancer.

Along with an entire nation, we pause on 9/11/01 to remember. Please join us for our annual memorial service, held at the Firemen’s Monument beginning at 1800 hours.

On September 5th, 2026 at 0420, the Ridgefield Park Fire Department was dispatched to 82 Brinkerhoff St for a reported fire. At 0424, Car 1 arrived on scene and reported fire showing and transmitted the 2nd
alarm to Fire Dispatch (Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center). Due to smoke filling the common hallway and stairwell, as well as multiple occupants needing to be removed from fire escapes, a 3rd alarm was subsequently transmitted.

Ridgefield Park units - Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, and Truck 2 - initiated an aggressive interior fire attack while conducting primary searches of the structure. Mutual aid companies arrived on scene and began assisting with assignments. Ridgefield Park and mutual aid fire companies operating on the scene, with the assistance of the Ridgefield Park Police Department, removed multiple residents from interior apartments and from the fire escapes.

Companies stretched three (3) handlines into the building and extinguished fire on multiple levels of the apartment building. Companies conducted overhaul and secured utilities to ensure there was no fire extension.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were two (2) injuries reported by civilians and they were transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

On Tuesday 8.25.26, Truck 2 joined the members of the Little Ferry Fire Department, Bergen County Fire Marshal’s Office, RPVAC, RPPD, LFPD, and Bergen County SWAT to perform demonstrations for the joint RPPD, LFPD Junior Police Academy.

Members took the time to explain the differences and similarities in apparatus, hazards faced, capabilities and roles between the two jurisdictions.

On Tuesday 8.4.26, the department participated in Ridgefield Park’s 2nd Annual National Night Out, hosted by RPPD at the high school. National Night Out is an opportunity for residents to connect with its first responders, and learn about the jobs they do and equipment used. Ridgefield Park, like most towns, has both paid and volunteer organizations, but all share the same goal of serving the community the represent.

Members of the department demonstrated its rappelling capabilities and displayed Truck 2’s new ladder truck.

Today the Ridgefield Park Fire Department remembers and celebrates the life of Ex-Chief Stephen Dembski, who died in the line of duty on 07/15/2007, after responding mutual aid to a house fire in Bogota. Stephen Dembski served as a firefighter on Truck Company #2 for 23 years, 6 of which he also served as a Department Chief. The Dembski family continues to remain in our thoughts and prayers.

The Ridgefield Park Fire Department would like to congratulate the Class of 2026 on all of their accomplishments, and wish them luck in their future endeavors!

Today officially kicks off summer in the village, which means an increased presence of children during the daytime hours. Please use caution when driving and be aware of pedestrians.

Graduates, looking for something to do this summer? The Ridgefield Park Fire Department is actively seeking new candidates. Applications can be obtained by visiting the office of the Chief, located at 50 Main Street.

On Saturday June 13, the Ridgefield Park Fire Department was dispatched to 7th St for a reported fire. Car 2 arrived on scene with smoke and fire showing and transmitted the working fire assignment. Companies arrived on scene and conducted an aggressive interior attack while conducting searches on all levels of the home. A second alarm was transmitted, providing firehouse coverage in the Village. The fire is being investigated by the Bureau of Fire Prevention. There were no reported injuries by the occupants, but two firefighters were transported to Holy Name Medical Center for injuries. Thank you to all our mutual aid partners for their assistance.

On Thursday June 11, the Ridgefield Park Fire Department was requested to respond to Englewood Cliffs for the commercial building fire. Engine 1 and Car 3 responded and operated for over 6 hours on scene. Engine 1 secured a water supply and fed ladder pipe operations as well as operated additional hand lines on the “D” side of the structure.
The Ridgefield Park Fire Department has responded to numerous other incidents during the day, including multiple activated fire alarms and a vehicle fire.

On Thursday May 21, the Ridgefield Park Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Teaneck Rd. & Gordon St. for the reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Upon the arrival of Car 1 and Truck 2, 1 patient was confirmed trapped with the vehicle pinned against a tree and telephone pole. Truck 2 began using their extrication equipment while a hose line was stretched off Engine 1. The patient was removed and transported by Holy Name BLS.
