With the warm weather approaching, the fire prevention bureau wants to remind you when using portable (window unit) air conditioning units, they must be plugged directly into a grounded wall outlet. You should never plug air conditioners into power strips or extension cords as these are not rated for the amperage that AC units draw and subject to overheating which can lead to a fire. If you ever have any fire safety questions never hesitate to call our office during business hours. Let's keep your homes and families safe this summer.

As a reminder...per Village Ordinance and NJ Fire Code all non-owner occupied 1 and 2 family homes as well as all 3 or more family buildings even if occupied by the owner must be registered with the fire prevention bureau and inspected annually. Failure to register may result in a penalty

With this week being Fire Prevention Week, we thank the members of the Fire Department and Fire Prevention Bureau who are going to the schools teaching the students about fire safety and remind everyone to have an evacuation plan in place for you and your family in the event of a fire. Also with it almost time to turn our clocks back remember to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. If your detectors are more than 10 years old they should be replaced with newer 10 year sealed units. And if you ever have a fire safety question, you can always call our office M-F between 9am and 3:30pm at 201-440-2570.
