What a great success our first weekly Little Seedlings program was! Many thanks to our volunteer family who helped make the basil planting happen today ❤️ If you missed it, we have added the basil seeds to our Seed Library.

We followed that with Lunch at the Library, featuring activities and guest readers from our local Navy Federal Credit Union branch! Lunch attendees chose books to build their home libraries (you can choose a book every day you attend lunch) and entered to win our weekly attendance drawing prize and filled out surveys. Our This or That was cats vs dogs and while the cats had an early lead for most of the time, dog lovers showed up at the end.

After lunch we had some very fun wildflower related activities presented by the docents of the Maturango Museum! We got to see flowers up close with microscopes, do a fun flower craft, and learn more about flowers. (They return tomorrow for Desert Alive, featuring info about plants and animals in our local desert.)

Our Reading Dragons Kickoff featured fun activities (feeding "sheep" to a dragon, making duct tape pouches for holding cards, a dragon craft) and of course, dragon themed snacks. We have a NEW set of "dragon" cards available this summer. If you finished our last summer and/or the fall/winter challenge, you can pick up a "professional dragon trainer" button. If you are starting with this summer's set, you can pick up a "dragon trainer" button. When you finish this summer, you can get a finisher button. (If you already signed up yesterday and did not get your button, just ask us. We wanted to release them during the Kickoff and also had to get more button making supplies.)

What a busy day for our first day of Summer Reading Challenge and Lunch at the Library!

We had Stay & Play in the morning and a Lunch at the Library visit from Kwincy with WM - Southern California and a recycling truck where kids got to climb inside! We served 97 youth lunches and lunch attendees got to choose a book to build their home library. Don't forget to enter the weekly drawing every time you come to Lunch at the Library! Did your choice win the This or That today?

In the afternoon we had Pokémon Play and Trade with Fistful of Cards Toys, Games, and Comics where kids learned how to play. Many thanks to Fistful of Cards for sharing the knowledge. Last, but not least, we had another meetup of Special Needs Teens and Caregivers where there was conversation, games, coloring, and snacks! Thanks to Brittany for putting this together.

Great news for Reading Dragons fans! We have a NEW starter set and another new set of 8 family cards available for this summer. If you are ambitious and want to collect more, keep reading or listening and get the opportunity to add more cards to your stash.

NOTE: Our Reading Dragons is NOT on Beanstack like the Summer Reading Challenge. We are using a paper tracker.
