Village of Richwood The town of Richwood was laid out in 1832, by Philip Plummer. As of the census there were 2,229 people. The median age was 33 years.

the village has a total area of 1.28 square miles (3.32 km), of which, 1.25 square miles (3.24 km) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km) is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,229 people, 877 households, and 572 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,783.2 inhabitants per square mile (688.5 /km). There were 969 housing units at an average density of 775.2 per sq

uare mile (299.3 /km). The racial makeup of the village was 98.3% White, 0.4% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.1% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population. There were 877 households of which 40.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% were married couples living together, 13.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.8% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.14. The median age in the village was 34.2 years. 29.6% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 28.2% were from 25 to 44; 22% were from 45 to 64; and 12.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 47.4% male and 52.6% female.

2000 census[edit]
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,156 people, 849 households, and 567 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,795.2 people per square mile (693.7/kmยฒ). There were 957 housing units at an average density of 796.9 per square mile (307.9/kmยฒ). The racial makeup of the village was 97.96% White, 0.23% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.19% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.32% of the population. There were 849 households out of which 35.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.5% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.12. In the village the population was spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males. The median income for a household in the village was $39,550, and the median income for a family was $47,656. Males had a median income of $33,393 versus $21,971 for females. The per capita income for the village was $16,799. About 6.6% of families and 8.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.0% of those under age 18 and 12.7% of those age 65 or over.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day is on Saturday, 04/25/2026, from 10AM-2PM. There will be a short delay in the start of the take back. The Baseball/Softball Parade kicks off at 10A on the same day, but the bays at the municipal building will be open as soon as the parade passes the municipal building. We will be staffed and open until 2PM for the take back! Thank you!!

Village of Richwood is hiring for a seasonal part-time park position, approximately 30 hours a week, from May through November. Weekend work is possible if needed. Applicants must be 18, have a valid driver's license, and pass a background check. Applications are available at 153 N Franklin St, Richwood, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

ATTENTION RESIDENTS:
On Thursday, March 26 th , sometime between 10:00am and 12pm The Village will
be temporarily shutting down the water supply of residents from N. Franklin Street North
of Heritage Co-op up to the North Union County Fire Department, as well as Landon
Rd. and all residents between N. Franklin St. and the water plant on Beatty Ave. The
shut down will be to cap/abandon a line leaving the old water plant. Please be aware
that following this outage, we are issuing a boil water advisory for 72 hours.
During this time, please boil all tap water before consuming. We apologize for the
inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

We wanted to give everyone a heads up on tree removal that is coming very soon. On Blagrove St. and W. Ottawa St. they will be removing trees in the right of way to make room to move all the utility poles back and make the road wider and upgrade some of the utilities in the right of ways. So please be careful in these areas as crews will be working in the roadways removing trees.
