Virginia Secretary of the Commonwealth

Virginia Secretary of the Commonwealth Candi Mundon King is the 75th Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Visit https://www.commonwealth.virginia.gov to learn how our office can serve you.

One of the functions of our office is to assist the Governor in his appointments of nearly 4,000 individuals to serve on Virginia's boards and commissions. All Virginians are encouraged to participate in the government of our Commonwealth by offering to serve on a board or commission, or by recommending qualified candidates. Applications are available on our website. We also serve the Commonwealth through managing extraditions, clemency petitions, restoration of voting rights, service of process, authenticating foreign adoption documents, certifying notary publics, handling lobbyist registration and disclosures, and conflict of interest filings. The Secretary of the Commonwealth acts as the Governor’s liaison to Virginia’s Indian Tribes, as well as an ex-officio member of the Council on Women.

Today, I am proud to share that Governor Spanberger has restored the right to vote, hold public office and become a notary to more than 66,000 Virginians since taking office. This is a work that started for me over two decades ago. I started my work as an intern for Senator Yvonne B. Miller-who championed voter restoration long before it was popular. Senator Miller taught me that voting was not only a fundamental right, but also an important part of people's full reintegration into community. I hope we've made her proud today. To those Virginians impacted, we are here to help. Reach out to us today.
