The West Contra Costa Unified School District remembers those who lost their lives, honors the first responders and others who demonstrated extraordinary courage and service, and recognizes the families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month, and today is Su***de Prevention Day, a time to raise awareness, promote hope, and remind our community that support is available. West Contra Costa Unified School District encourages students, staff, and families to look out for one another, stay connected, and seek help when needed. Together, we can help create school communities where everyone feels supported, valued, and heard.

Resources for Students & Families:
988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 for free, confidential crisis support, available 24/7.

Soluna: California students ages 13–25 can access free, confidential mental health and wellness support through Soluna, including one-on-one coaching, wellness tools, and resources.

Happy Labor Day Weekend, WCCUSD! 🇺🇸

As we head into the long weekend, we wish our students, families, staff, and community a safe and restful Labor Day weekend.

As a reminder, all WCCUSD schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We look forward to welcoming everyone back after the holiday.

🎒💙 We’re starting the 2026–27 school year strong, together!

Superintendent Cheryl Cotton, Board President Guadalupe Enllana, Board Clerk Demetrio Gonzalez Hoy, and our new Associate Superintendent of Education Services, Dr. LeRoy Gaines, spent the first day of school visiting campuses, connecting with students and staff, and celebrating the start of a new year!

Today’s visits included Betty Reid Soskin at Pinole Middle School, where our leaders recorded this special first-day message, as well as Kennedy High School and West County Mandarin School.

The visits don’t stop here! Throughout the week, our District leadership team and incredible central office staff will continue visiting and supporting schools across WCCUSD as we start the year strong together.

The Alpha Wolves had a strong first day! DeJean staff helped make the first day of the 2026–27 school year welcoming for scholars.

During lunch, school support staff and counselor Tierra Karriem, Raven Caldwell, and Iza Rodriguez organized activities that gave scholars an opportunity to have fun, connect, and settle back into the school-day routine.

And the support continued throughout the day! Assistant Principal Christina Ferry made sure students had access to the new student handbook, one of the many important resources that help families start the year ready and supported.
