As Easter is fast approaching and Easter festivities are beginning I just wanted to get this post out there…..Please do NOT run out and buy a bunny as an Easter present UNLESS you have fully done research and understand what you are committing to! Sadly within months of Easter (EVERY year) we will respond to domestic rabbits that have been dumped to fend for themselves…. Rabbits that were purchased without the knowledge that a rabbit is hard work and not just a cute furry “toy” for your child! The spring is generally known as “kitten season” in the Animal Control world because that’s when our litters start happening but more and more each year it’s become “rabbit season” as we rescue the rabbits that are no longer a fun “toy” for you or your child after Easter. Please think twice

*RICHMOND ANIMAL CONTROL NEGLECT/CRUELTY CASE*
PLEASE SEE ALL INFORMATION BELOW AND HOW YOU CAN HELP!

As reported in the Press Release, eighteen (18) animals were seized and transported to foster locations in Hopkinton and Richmond so they could receive proper food, water, shelter, and care. Since being relocated to the foster locations on February 5th, their health continues to improve! Richmond Animal Control does not have a budget for livestock and the budget we do have for domestic animals (cats/dogs etc.) is not equipped for a cruelty case like this. Our expenses and the expenses of fosters for food/hay/medical/supplies etc. have been astronomical! We are making it work but could definitely use your support! We have put together a Donation drive to help support the animals/fosters/us. We decided to do a direct donation drive vs a go fund me so every dollar will go directly to the animals. Information is in post below. Beside monetary donations we would also GLADLY accept gift cards to places like Tractor Supply, Agway, Allie’s Tack and Feed (really any gift card to places that sell hay/grain/treats/supplements/minerals OR if you have a Hay (bales OR round bales) or silage connection!!!.... We go through A LOT of hay!!! A LOT! (Bonus points if they deliver! I thought my new van was huge but after a few hay bale pick up runs…. I’ve discovered it’s not! Also as a newly self-proclaimed not so-farm "farm girl" I have learned round bales CANNOT be transported in a van!....who knew?!
We understand times are tough for everyone and understand if you cannot donate but please at least share! If you cannot share from this post (certain sites have sharing restrictions) you can share directly from Richmond Animal Control page which is a public page (make sure it is Richmond RI).
A MASSIVE shout out goes to our 4 AMAZING fosters who stepped up without a hesitation for transport, housing and care for these animals. From medical appointments, covering expenses, to baby watch duties and everything in between I can say I would be 1 million percent (100% is not enough) lost without all of their guidance, knowledge and selflessness they have shown this last month. Myself (and most importantly the animals) have been beyond blessed to have these amazing humans put in our lives and these animals have the absolute best chance at a happy future because they opened their homes and hearts.
THANK YOU! (Updated HAPPY pictures of all these animals will be posted soon!!! Stay tuned for cuteness overload and Donkey selfies! (Our female thinks she’s a social media influencer when she sees a phone now!)

We will be closed Monday 2/23 due to the pending predicted snow-pocalypse. If you have a true animal emergency please reach out to the police department 539-8289 (this is for TRUE emergencies only! Officers will NOT be responding to barking dogs and calls of that nature) feel free to send a message to me here if you have questions or concerns during the storm!) Stay home, stay safe, stay warm and PLEASE keep your cats/dogs INSIDE with you!

Meet "Dwight" this lovable goofball is looking for his forever home. "Dwight" is currently with his loving family but they have made the very difficult decision to rehome due to changes at home/work and not being able to provide "Dwight" with the attention he fully deserves. We fully support the owners decision and know this will be a great thing for "Dwight". "Dwight" is an active boy and needs to be able to run and play and someone who can keep up with his pace! "Dwight" is a 5 yr old lab mix, weighing in at about 60 lbs, he is up to date on vaccines. "Dwight" currently lives with an older dog and does great, "Dwight" does NOT understand his size or dog social cues so if you have a tiny dog, a small toddler or a dog that wouldn't appreciate "Dwight" wanting to play and wrestle until HE is done then he would not be a good fit for you! There is a cat at home but she successfully avoids him so really unknown how he would be with cats. "Dwight" needs corrective work for jumping and understanding he is a 60lb muscle packed dog and not a 10lb lap dog. "Dwight" is kennel trained and (at least at the beginning) needs to be kenneled when left alone as he likes to chew when he is bored. "Dwight" will remain with his family until adoption, and we will facilitate adoption so if you are interested in meeting "Dwight" we will set up a meet and greet at the pound. "Dwight" is NOT neutered and will need to be so will be adopted only with a signed neuter contract at the time of adoption. The adoption fee for "Dwight" is only for the cost of his neuter which is $150. At the time of adoption you will receive a prepaid voucher for his neuter which MUST be completed at Potter League spay and neuter clinic. If you would prefer to use your own vet for neuter you can do that as well at your expense and the $150 will be reimbursed when proof of neuter is submitted. If interested, please fill out application and I will contact you after reviewing information

After Rusty is done getting beat up by his kitty Rosie all day at work, he comes home and terrorizes his poor sister with speed demon body checks. They sound like super evil gremlins but this is the noise they make when they play together (and Im fully convinced its a secret contest they have to see who can be the loudest each day) it’s fun when it’s 6AM or you have a headache! 🤦‍♀️

Rusty and Rosie (and us humans at Richmond Animal Control) want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!! 🎄🌟 Thank you all for your continued support/kindness/donations for our pound and our ever changing furry friends! You have made my transition these past 10 months as the new full time ACO a great experience and I’m so incredibly thankful to the amazing members of this community! ❤️ Here’s to an amazing 2026!!

Mondays are my favorite! (Weird I know!) It’s always so much fun watching these 2 after they have spent the weekend apart from each other. Rosie waits by the window for us to arrive then hides behind the door to sneak attack Rusty. They’ll rough house for about 30 mins then both pass out snuggled in bed together ❤️ (poor Rusty tries sooooo hard on the weekends to befriend our cats at home and they have zero tolerance for him! So hes happy to get back to Rosie 😂)

The other day I was dispatched to an empty house where the parties had left an “Iguana”, I arrived to find a empty house with no heat and this little Bearded dragon ICE COLD, curled up, flattened to the floor like a pancake and lifeless. I poked and pulled and pinched at him with no movement and figured he had unfortunately frozen/starved to death (alone and scared) I swear I saw the tiniest movement in his chest and even though I was convinced that my eyes were playing tricks on me I held out hope as I frantically called the amazing wildlife rehabber Elisha Zonfrilli and said “I think hes already dead but I also think I’m imagining him breathing” and without hesitation she instantly said “bring him to me!” Holding him to the heat vent as I drove, he started wiggling his toes (so slowly at first I definitely thought I was hallucinating) 10 mins in and he took a giant breath, puffed up, opened his eyes slightly and turned and looked at me. I’m pretty immune now to what I see while doing this work but this made me instantly cry. He was safely dropped off as the first official intake at Boulderwood Sanctuary & Wildlife Rehab and Elisha worked her magic! He is warm, being hydrated and safe! It takes a village sometimes and I’m so lucky I have these amazing friends to turn to!! (He ALSO has found his forever home there!) ❤️ (pics: when he was found and current)
**PLEASE (times a million) do NOT just abandon your animals! This guy didn’t deserve a death sentence because owners didn’t want him anymore. If you find yourself needing help reach out to us and we will do everything humanly possible to avoid situations like this!
