The Emergency Management Alliance of Central Virginia is a voluntary group of local emergency managers and partner organizations from 25 localities in Central Virginia. As neighbors and partners, we recognize that emergencies and disasters are not limited by jurisdictional boundaries. We prepare, plan, and train together, so that we can better serve the community during an emergency. The partner l

ocalities and agencies are committed to working together to make Central Virginia as prepared as it can be. The Alliance was created from the former Urban Area Working Group (UAWG) of the Central Virginia UASI. The Alliance is a forum for local emergency managers, public safety officials, federal, state, regional, private sector, higher education and non-profit partners to collaborate, coordinate and enhance emergency management and preparedness in Central Virginia. Our goal is to improve preparedness, situational awareness, and resiliency in Central Virginia and to provide a place to share ideas and lessons learned while creating strong partnerships and leveraging grant funding for regional projects.

Today is the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction! Across the globe, leaders are connecting to bolster prevention and resilience resources and best practice, as we continue to see increasing disaster risk from a variety of sources.

Here in Central Virginia, the Emergency Management Alliance ensures that emergency responders and service providers across all 18 Richmond metro localities are connected, can access shared training opportunities, and share resources to help our communities stay ready. We're united for your safety and resilience!

Learn more about the partners and our collaboration at emacv.org

Stay connected locally, be ready, and breathe a little easier, knowing that your regional emergency professionals are, too. It's free to join the alliance.

We had another successful Preparedness Night with the Flying Squirrels on July 2nd! Smokey Bear was there to throw the first pitch and remind community members to be safe this summer when using fireworks. Volunteers were present to help us spread safety information from Louisa CART, the Department of Virginia Department of Forestry, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service, as well as Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members from across to region.

Over the evening, volunteers passed out over 150 emergency preparedness kits to the first people through the gates, and safety coloring books, pamphlets, and home supplies were handed out to visitors at the table.

The next Preparedness Night at the Diamond is August 29th - see you there!

Fireworks are dangerous to people and pets. The best way to stay safe from fireworks is to not use them - instead, attend a public fireworks display put on by professionals.

No fret - you can enjoy a spectacular fireworks display just in time for Independence Day on Wednesday, July 2nd for Preparedness Night with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. We will be present with partners handing out preparedness info and kits, and a special guest will be there too (hint, its Smokey Bear!)
