Altrusa - Capital City’s Literacy Committee chose to participate in the “Students on the WRITE Course” campaign at Fairfield Middle School in Henrico County. On July 21,2026, our club delivered 650 composition notebooks to the school to assist them with reaching their 3,000-notebook goal.

On June 6, 2026 Altrusa International of the Capital City of Virginia members got together for their annual Retreat. Many things were discussed and accomplished.

Literacy and Community Service Project

On May 7, 2026, the co-chairs of the Literacy Committee met with Three Chopt Elementary School’s Counselor to launch a new initiative aimed at supporting students through an Altrusa–Capital City Literacy and Community Service Project.

Our first project involved Altrusa–Capital City providing snacks during SOL testing. The second project provided funding to help several fifth-grade students receive yearbooks.

We believe education and community support go hand in hand.

Altrusa Capital City of Virginia Installation of Officers

In May, 2026 Capital City installed officers for the coming year.
The installation was called “Color Me Beautiful.” Having a magic coloring book, you can color yourself just as you should be---a woman dedicated to your goals and objectives. There is a magic office to help you believe in your importance to our group. You can work with all the wonderful colors and find a bright new year ahead, filled with adventures, new discoveries, and fun!
Our Directors, Anita Anderson, Frances Ellis, Patricia Haden, June Pearson and Mary Jo Presley were presented with PINK Crayola Crayons.
Our Treasurer, Rita McCulloch, was presented with a GREEN Crayola Crayon.
Our Corresponding Secretary, Jackie Presley and Recording Secretary, Patrice Miles, were presented with RED Crayola Crayons.
Our President, Dorothy Thompkins was presented with a PURPLE Crayola Crayon.
After accepting the responsibility of their Offices, they pledged their best efforts to perform the duties to the best of their ability.

The Malawi Project was with the Richmond Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Altrua Capital City Members (Rita McCulloch, June Pea, Anita Anderson, Pat Haden, Dorothy Thompkins and Danette Porter).

Malawi Project—June 5, 2026

On Friday, June 5, 2026, members of Altrusa—Capital City’s International Relations Committee and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Richmond, VA chapter, met at North Park Library, Henrico County to assemble one hundred newborn birthing kits for our Malawi, Southeast Africa project. Malawi is classified as a low-income, impoverished country and consistently ranks among the poorest nations in the world.
The birthing kits, prepared for new babies in Malawi, were filled with soap, diapers, zero to three-month onesies, baby hats, baby wash cloths, receiving blankets, rubber gloves, dental floss and razor blades for umbilical cords, gallon and small zip lock bags, large garage bags, sanitary, chux and maternity pads. These kits will enable more moms to have a healthy and safe delivery and the necessary supplies they need to care for their precious newborns.
Altrusa and Delta are happy again this year to continue the project that was started several years ago and we look forward to next year’s partnership.
