The Democratic Black Caucus of Virginia (DBCV) is an integral part of the Democratic Party of Virginia and Democratic National Committee. Our mission is to educate African Americans about the value of the Democratic Party and to educate the members and leadership of the Democratic Party of Virginia about the needs of the African American community. Our members are committed to advancing Democratic

values and electing Democrats from the local grassroots level to the General Assembly, to Congress and to the White House.

During the session, the VLBC welcomed two new member, Delegate Jeff Bourne of Richmond and Delegate Cliff Hayes Jr. of Chesapeake. Delegate Bourne, a former member of the Richmond School Board, filled the seat formerly held by Sen. McClellan, who was elevated to the Senate following former Sen. A. Donald McEachin’s election in November to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Three anti-gerrymandering measures that passed the Senate with bipartisan support — two of them sponsored by Republicans — died in 5-2 party-line votes in a GOP-controlled subcommittee dealing with elections.

A Virginia House of Delegates subcommittee on Tuesday dealt the finishing blow to redistricting reform efforts for the 2017 legislative session after sparring between the two lawmakers who spearheaded the last redrawing of legislative lines in 2011.

URGENT: Day of Action at the Virginia State Capitol!

On February 20, 2017, Delegate Marcia "Cia" Price will host members of local Black Greek Letter Organizations, known as the Divine Nine.

The organizational memberships include:
-Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - Founded in 1906
-Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Founded in 1908
-Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. - Founded in 1911
-Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. - Founded in 1911
-Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - Founded in 1913
-Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Founded in 1914
-Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. - Founded in 1920
-Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. - Founded in 1922
-Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. - Founded in 1963

Participants will experience a day of learning on the Capitol Square grounds, knowing that it is important to know how the legislative process runs. The activities will run from 9am-1pm and breakfast will be provided.
