LMPD's Statement regarding the death of Fourth Division Officer Anthony Elliott.

Louisville Metro Police Department is mourning the loss of 4th Division Officer Anthony Elliott, who died following a motorcycle crash last evening. Officer Elliott served the Louisville Metro Police Department with dedication and commitment to the community. His loss is deeply felt by his fellow officers, civilian employees, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. The department is focused on supporting Officer Elliott’s family and members of the LMPD family as they navigate this tremendous loss. Additional information regarding arrangements and opportunities to honor Officer Elliott will be released as it becomes available.

The rain held off as the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation & DOCJT added ten additional names of honor to monument. The board of directors were humbled to welcome the families of the fallen, their colleagues, the members of many Kentucky law enforcement agencies and Lieutenant Governor Coleman to share in this occasion. The annual service is a fitting remembrance to the 609 peace officers who are named here and gave their lives in the line of duty from 1845 through 2025. Thank you to all in attendance.

Today marks the start of National Police Week. During this week, we pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

The week began in 1962, when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
