A Message from Our VFRW President Chelle Davis:
Today, December 7, we pause to reflect on the events that forever changed our nation 83 years ago.
On this day in 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor shattered a peaceful Sunday morning, claiming the lives of 2,403 brave Americans, wounding countless others, and thrusting our country into World War II. It was a moment of profound loss and tragedy, but also one that galvanized a nation into action.
We reflect on the young men—many still boys—who faced unimaginable fear and danger that day. They ran toward chaos, manned their posts, and defended their country with courage and selflessness, knowing the cost. Their sacrifices, along with those of the servicemen and women who would follow them into war, remind us of the profound price of freedom and the extraordinary bravery that defined the Greatest Generation.
At the same time, we honor the women who stepped forward in that critical moment in history. Whether serving in uniform, providing medical care in hospitals, or supporting the war effort from home, their resilience and determination were indispensable. Nurses and healthcare providers, in particular, played a vital role in caring for the wounded, saving lives, and offering comfort during one of the most challenging times in our nation’s history.
As VFRW members, you continue to embody these values through your service and dedication. Your efforts ensure that the legacy of those who sacrificed for our country will never be forgotten.
Today, let us honor the boys who never came home, the men and women who rose to the challenge, and the enduring lesson of Pearl Harbor: that even in the face of great adversity, unity, courage, and resolve can carry us through.
Thank you for all you do to uphold the values and spirit that will always make our nation great.
