Starting in January 2027, Medicaid Expansion members will be subject to a new Medicaid Work Requirement and have their eligibility for coverage reviewed every 6 months.

The countdown is on—Open Enrollment for Virginia Cardinal Care ends August 31 for the Northern Virginia region.

There are three ways you can start your enrollment:

✔️Enroll online by visiting our website (www.dmas.virginia.gov/).

✔️Enroll on the go in the Cardinal Care app for Android or iPhone

✔️Enroll by phone by calling 1-800-643-2273 (TTY: 1-800-817-6608) from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Time is limited — act today to avoid missing the August 31 deadline!

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and what better way to celebrate than making sure your vaccines are up to date!

If you're an adult with Cardinal Care, you can get these vaccines for free:

💉Flu shot — For all adults. Stops you from getting the flu (influenza). Get one every year.
💉Tetanus, diphtheria & pertussis shot — For all adults. Protects you from serious infections from cuts and wounds plus protects you from getting whooping cough. Get a booster every 10 years.
💉Shingles shot — For adults 50 and older. Prevents a painful rash that can happen to older adults.
💉Hepatitis A and B shots — For all adults who haven't been vaccinated. Protects your liver from serious infections.
💉HPV shot — For adults up to age 45. Prevents certain cancers.

Next steps: Call your doctor's office and ask for a vaccine appointment. Ask which vaccines you need based on your age.

Injured in a swimming accident at the age of 15, Steven says Medicaid has been there for him since “day one.”

Medicaid has helped Stephen cover all medical expenses and appointments since the accident 30+ years ago. It has been a “lifesaver” for Steven and his family.

It's back to school time! One way to make sure your child is prepared for the school year is making sure they're healthy and ready to learn! 🍎

Cardinal Care for kids offers annual wellness checkups, vision care and glasses, doctors’ visits, prescriptions, and more. Before the school year starts, schedule an appointment with your child's medical provider for routine vaccinations, physicals, and any other concerns you may have.

After losing her husband, Donna faced another crisis when her family lost health coverage and her son needed ongoing medical care. Cardinal Care helped connect her family to the treatment and support her son needed while Donna worked to rebuild their lives.

“I'm truly thankful for [Medicaid],” Donna said. “I am so glad these resources exist for people like me.”
