Beth Ahabah Museum & Archives The Beth Ahabah Museum & Archives is THE place for Jewish history in Richmond, Virginia. Beth Ahabah (House of Love) is the successor to Kahal Kadosh (K.K.)

The Beth Ahabah Museum & Archives is Richmond's museum of Jewish history, art and culture. Located in the historic Fan District, the Museum & Archives is housed in an early 20th century row house adjacent to the 1904 sanctuary of Congregation Beth Ahabah. Beth Shalome, the sixth Jewish congregation in the nation. The Museum & Archives houses an invaluable collection of documents, portraits, photo

graphs, paintings and objects that provides a window to the lives, loves, contributions, defeats and triumphs of Jewish Richmonders since the days of the American Revolution. The archival collection includes the congregational records of K.K. Beth Shalome, est. 1789, and Congregation Beth Ahabah, est. 1841, along with the records of many of Richmond's Jewish organizations, families and individuals.

We at Beth Ahabah Museum and Archives are devastated to hear about the very sudden death of Bill Martin. For decades we've had a wonderful partnership with the The Valentine fostered by Bill and the dedicated staff at both institutions. Losing him is such a blow to the Jewish community and the Richmond community as a whole.
He will be greatly missed and we send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
May his memory be a blessing and a call to love and appreciate the history of our beautiful city.

As Richmond continues to mourn the sudden death of Valentine Director Bill Martin, we're resharing our profile feature on him from last year, when the "Museum Dean" was named our 2024 Richmonder of the Year for all of his amazing work shepherding the city toward a better tomorrow. Welcome to our finished library! We have prayerbooks, books on Jewish art, encyclopedias, and Jewish history both internationally and from almost every state in the U.S. We also have books from local Jewish authors! While our books are reference only, you are free to come by to read and research.
Our library is nestled within our new gallery space at 1121 W. Franklin St.
