It’s always a great day to do some training!

Today we conducted live fire training in our training facility. Being able to hone our skills in a safe, controlled environment, with live fire that allows us to see the smoke behavior, feel the heat, and watch how the fire reacts is truly a training opportunity second to none!

This fire is just beginning to fill the structure with smoke and is about 2 minutes away from the attack team making entry and advancing to the seat of the fire.

Earlier this week we used our Training Facility for the first time. We simulated a structure fire and conducted search and rescue training inside. Our Training Facility is a one of a kind, state of the art structure that allows us to simulate many different realistic scenarios that include live fire, bailing out of a second story window, search and rescue, floor collapse rescue, and forcible entry into a structure.

We’re very excited about this facility and its ability to allow us to provide the highest level of training and preparedness available to our service area! The facility is still under construction and we’ll share more about it as it’s completed.

Today we spent time training on some new equipment that was donated by the Chain of Lakes Relief Association. These are telestruts that allow us a wide array of flexibility for the stabilization of vehicles that have rolled over onto their sides or roof. Vehicle stabilization is important for the safety of patients inside the vehicle as well as the first responders providing care and extrication.

Our goal is to provide the best emergency response to our service area and sometimes that includes the purchase of new equipment. We want to extend a big thank you to everyone who has supported us and helped equip us to do our job, thank you!

We sent 4 firefighters down to say final goodbyes to the Burnsville firefighter and 2 police officers who were killed in the line of duty on 2/21/24. It’s an honor to be able to join the rest of the state and beyond in saying goodbye and thank you to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice in serving their community.

Tonight when you change your clocks is a great time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms!

Smoke alarms should be tested each month to ensure that they are functioning properly and it’s a good time to talk with all members of the household about a fire escape route and meeting point.

All smoke alarms should be replaced after 10 years of use and combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced every 5-7 years.
