Wayne County Emergency Communications

Wayne County Emergency Communications Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all of Wayne County, Indiana. Handling both emergency and non-emergency calls for Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS.

The Wayne County Emergency Communications Center is the only Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all of Wayne County, Indiana, including our county seat of Richmond. Our Communication Specialists work around the clock answering both emergency calls to 9-1-1, and non-emergency administrative calls for service for all three disciplines; law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. Our

Communication Specialists go through required training and classes, covering the basics of call-taking and dispatching, including Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) so they can begin instructing callers how to render care to the sick and injured prior to an ambulance arriving on the scene. And each Communication Specialist must meet minimum training hours each year to keep certifications and qualifications active and current. Our call center averages over 40,000 9-1-1 calls each year, 65,000 non-emergency calls, and enters nearly 87,000 calls into the CAD (computer aided dispatch) each year. We serve the 69,000 citizens (37,000 of which are in Richmond) of our county that spans nearly 400 square miles.

This week we honor and remember the brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting their communities, including our own Seara Burton, K9 Richmond Police Officer. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 💙🖤

Wayne County Emergency Communications would like to inform residents that we will be assisting Union County 911 Communications due to their critical staffing levels.

We are proud to support our neighboring agency and ensure that all 911 services remain fully operational. This partnership reflects our commitment to public safety and to helping others when it matters most. Residents in both counties should not notice any change in service, and our team is fully prepared to handle the additional responsibility.

This is what neighbors helping neighbors looks like, working together to make sure every call for help is answered.

Last week, our dispatchers were on the receiving end of incredible generosity from our partner agencies and community. It meant a lot to our team, and we wanted to pay that kindness forward.

Throughout the week, we collected donations for the Richmond Stride Center and Animal Care Alliance—two organizations doing amazing work right here in our community.

Today, Deputy Director Campbell and Supervisor Purcell delivered those donations.

We’re thankful to be able to give back, even in a small way.

Not every call we answer comes in on 911.

Wayne County 911 also answers non-emergency lines for several of our public safety partners across the county. From routine questions to non-urgent situations, we’re still here to help, just on a different line.

Saving your local non-emergency number in your phone is a simple step that can make a big difference.

Not sure what your local non-emergency number is? Visit our website to find it:
https://www.co.wayne.in.us/911/index.php

Keeping 911 lines open helps ensure they’re available for our friends and neighbors who may need immediate help.

What do you get when you mix Telecommunicator Week, awkward family photos, and a group of dispatchers who spend a lot of time together?

Apparently… this.

In all seriousness, this group really is like a family. We spend long hours together, support each other through the tough calls, and find ways to laugh in between.

We are proud to be the kind of team that shows up for each other every single day. 💛
