The Irma Dru Hutchison Elementary Facebook Fan Page is provided as a resource for the campus community. We will update this page as often as possible to share as much as we can about the campus and the achievements of the students and staff as well as other relevant campus and district information. All posting of comments on this page are at the discretion of the page administrators. The intent of this policy is not to keep any negative or critical information from being posted, but to protect the privacy and rights of the Lamar CISD staff and students. Naming specific employees or students in a negative way will not be allowed (and is just generally rude). The page administrators will review all postings to make sure they do not break the rules or violate the district’s Acceptable Use Guidelines regarding Internet access and practices. We welcome your thoughts and comments and look forward to what you have to say. However, we will not leave postings that:
• Break the law or encourage others to do so. This includes respecting copyright and fair use laws. If you are talking about somebody else’s work, reference this or the person, and where possible include a link.

💵 Project LEARN: Financial Planning for Families

Hutchison families, Project LEARN invites you to participate in a FREE two-day Financial Planning class designed to help LCISD families build knowledge and confidence when planning for the future.

Topics will include budgeting and expenses, credit versus cash, investing and retirement savings, financial services, education and career pathways, insurance, estate and asset planning, and management.

📅 Dates: October 15 & October 29, 2026
⏰ Time: 10:00–11:30 AM

Every Day Counts at Hutchison!

At Hutchison Elementary, we are committed to helping every child reach their full potential, and one of the most important factors in student success is regular school attendance.

When students are at school every day, they benefit from valuable instruction, classroom discussions, collaborative learning experiences, and opportunities to build strong relationships with their teachers and peers.

Even a few missed days can make it more difficult for students to keep up with learning.

We know that illnesses and unexpected circumstances occur, and we appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain strong attendance.

Per the Lamar CISD Elementary Student Handbook, when your child is absent, a signed note from a parent, medical professional, or court official should be submitted within five (5) days of the absence. Notes may be provided to your child's teacher or directly to the front office. Absences without the required documentation may be considered unexcused.

Please note that while certain absences, such as personal illness, documented healthcare appointments, religious holy days, required court appearances, and qualifying family emergencies may be excused, absences for family trips, vacations, reunions, weddings, and other non-school-related activities are considered unexcused under district guidelines.

Our goal this year is to improve attendance across our campus. Strong attendance supports student achievement and contributes to our campus accountability measures. Consistent attendance helps ensure that Hutchison students are receiving the full benefit of their educational opportunities each day.
Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance a priority. Together, we can help our Hornets have a successful year of learning and growth!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible generosity shown during our Stock the Pantry initiative for our staff!

Thanks to your thoughtful donations, our staff pantry is stocked with snacks, drinks, and treats that will help keep our hardworking teachers and staff energized throughout the school day. Your kindness is more than just a donation. It is a reminder that our staff is supported, appreciated, and cared for by an amazing community.

The generosity of our families continues to touch our hearts. We truly feel the love and support from our parents and community, and we are so thankful to partner with such a caring school family.

Today, Hutchison Elementary was filled with love, laughter, and family connection as we welcomed our Hornet families for our Grandparents Day Breakfast! From warm hugs and bright smiles to meaningful moments around the table, the morning was a beautiful display of the village that surrounds and supports our students.

We are grateful to every grandparent, parent, guardian, and loved one who joined us. Your presence strengthens the partnership between home and school and reminds our Hornets that their learning journey is supported by an entire community.

Moments like these are an important part of Hutchison’s commitment to strengthening family and community partnerships through meaningful school experiences that bring families together, celebrate the people and cultures within our community, and build stronger connections between home and school. Through these opportunities, we continue creating a welcoming campus where families are valued as essential partners in the success of every student.

A special thank you to our counselor, Mr. Sosa, for steering this wonderful event and to all of our Hutchison staff members who helped make the morning possible! Hornet Families,

Due to ongoing construction at the intersection of Richmond Parkway and Ransom Road, several traffic lanes are expected to be closed at various times over the next several weeks. These closures may impact both morning arrival and afternoon dismissal traffic around Hutchison Elementary.

Beginning Thursday, September 10, 2026, we will temporarily adjust the direction of our car-rider line to help traffic move more efficiently. Families should approach and line up from the opposite end of Richmond Parkway rather than using the current traffic flow.

Please refer to the attached map/visual for the designated route, entry point, and direction of the car-rider line.

We encourage all families to:
🐝Allow additional travel time during arrival and dismissal.
🐝Follow all posted traffic signs and construction detours.
🐝Follow directions provided by law enforcement officers, construction personnel, and campus staff.
🐝Exercise patience and caution as everyone adjusts to the temporary traffic pattern.

Our campus team will continue to monitor traffic flow and safety conditions throughout the construction period. If additional adjustments are needed, we will communicate those changes with families as quickly as possible through ParentSquare.

Thank you for your flexibility, patience, and partnership as we work to keep our Hornets and families safe while maintaining an efficient arrival and dismissal process.

Our 5th Grade Hornets in Ms. Thomas and Ms. Vo’s classes recently put their science skills to work during a hands-on investigation exploring how to separate a mixture of salt and water! 💧🧂

📚 What are they learning?
This investigation connects to 5th Grade Science TEKS 5.6B, as students explore mixtures and how the physical properties of their ingredients can be used to understand and separate them.

Simply put, students are discovering that when materials are mixed together, they don’t necessarily become something new—and their unique properties can give us clues about how to separate them!

Experiences like these give our Hornets opportunities to observe, investigate, problem-solve, and explain their scientific thinking.
