Salute to Servicemembers Award is one of the most meaningful ways we honor our enlisted heroes.

Each year, the ALA recognizes outstanding enlisted servicemembers (E1–E9) from all seven branches:
Army • Navy • Marine Corps • Air Force • Coast Guard • Space Force • National Guard/Reserve

This award celebrates those who not only excel in uniform but also demonstrate exceptional commitment to their communities—truly embodying Service, Not Self.

What makes this award so special?
Any ALA member, Unit, or Department can submit a nomination. No Department approval. No waiting for convention. If you know a servicemember whose story deserves to be told, you can lift them up.

A complete nomination package includes:
• Online nomination form
• Narrative (up to 1,000 words)
• Photo of the servicemember in uniform
• Endorsement from their command group

All submissions are made through the ALA Membership Portal under: Committees, Awards and Reporting Salute to Servicemembers

Deadline: June 1, 2026
Award recipients will be honored at the ALA National Convention in Louisville, KY.

Now is the perfect time to reflect on the servicemembers in your community and begin drafting your nominations. Let’s ensure these heroes receive the recognition they truly deserve.

We are happy to announce the official 2026 Wreaths Across America theme: Remember Me.

The theme comes as the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the United States, a milestone WAA says calls for renewed focus on the individual lives behind America’s military service. “While we often honor service members collectively, each one has a name, a family and a story,” says Karen Worcester, executive director, WAA. “Their sacrifices are deeply personal, and their stories shape the freedoms we enjoy today.”

Share the story of someone who served and time may have forgotten, so we can learn their story and share it with future generations:

Well with all the hustle and bustle I totally didn’t get any pictures but want to shout out and thank my unit for all they did coming into the holidays with making site that the folloing happened.

For Thanksgiving we provided 10 bags of groceries and a turkey with all rhe trimings for our family! Go big or go home. We just wanted to make sure tht they were all set fomore than just one day.

For Christmas we 10 adopt a vet for Augusta and 30 for South Paris, because making heroes day makes us happy!

We als adopted 2 families for Christmas (5 children in total) lots of gifts and 8 bags of groceries for each family and a turkey with all the trimings for each. Because again, we are wither all in or wll out!

Things got crazy in the end and we are very thankful that a few angels came out and helped us to complete the last minute second family.

Very proud to work hand and hand with people who truly care!
