On March 22, 2024, I had the opportunity to attend a Career Day at John Rolfe Middle School and to speak with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders about the role of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and King William County.

The students were full of energy and had lots of great questions. I am always grateful for the opportunity to do work outside of the courtroom!

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year’s theme is , which strives to highlight how common domestic violence is not just nationally, but in our own community.

On September 25, 2023, the Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 23-66, proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in King William County.

You can observe National Domestic Violence Awareness Month by:
- participating in a community event;
- taking the community pledge to stand up against domestic violence; and
- spreading the word about this year’s campaign.

If you, or someone you know, has been a victim of domestic violence and needs assistance, you are not alone, and help is available through the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Victim/Witness Program.

On May 24, 2023, the King William County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office held the Alta Danielle Bell Perseverance Award Ceremony. The Alta Danielle Bell Perseverance Award was created in 2019 in honor of Alta Danielle Bell, a native of the Town of West Point, and in recognition of the perseverance, resilience, and patience displayed by the Bell family leading up to and during the prosecution of the individual responsible for Alta's death in 2015.

During the ceremony, Tiffany M. Webb, interim Commonwealth's Attorney, presented three awards to selected recipients. The recipients were chosen based on their embodiment of perseverance, which is defined as "the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition".

The 2020 award recipient was Gina Hill, the 2021 award recipient was the family of Orlando Anderson, Jr., and the 2022 award recipient was the family of Graham K. McCormick.

Ceremony attendees included Ashton Sr. and Delilah Bell, the Honorable Matthew R. Kite, the Honorable Anthony G. "Tony" Spencer, Percy Ashcraft, representatives from the King William Sheriff's Office, the Virginia State Police, the Lancaster Sheriff's Office, and a host of other community members, family, and friends.

National Crime Victims’ Week (NCVRW) will be commemorated April 23-29, 2023.

The 2023 NCVRW theme is - Survivor Voices: Elevate. Engage. Effect Change. The theme calls upon communities to amplify the voices of survivors and create environments where survivors have the confidence that they will be heard, believed, and supported.

The King William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office supports NCVRW’s theme not just next week, but every day. This office, in conjunction with the Victim/Witness Program, is here to assist with providing available services to victims and/or witnesses as needed.

For questions or additional information, please contact (804) 769-4159.

Congratulations are in order for The Honorable Matthew R. Kite and Tiffany M. Webb.

Judge Kite, after serving as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for King William for 12 years, has been appointed as a Judge for the 9th Judicial Circuit Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. He will be sitting in Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties. Judge Kite will be missed, but we are excited for his new opportunity and wish him well.

With Judge Kite’s elevation to the bench, Tiffany M. Webb was appointed as the Interim Commonwealth’s Attorney for the County. Tiffany will serve in this position for the remainder of 2023, and will be on the ballot in November 2023 to run for the four-year term.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of participating in the annual Advisory Board Breakfast Meeting for the Bon Secours Violence Response Team. This program has developed over more than 20 years — from a back room in the ER to a new state of the art treatment and evidence collection office suite —providing essential services such as forensic nursing and victim advocacy for patients. The caring professionals with Bon Secours are responsible for assisting in numerous effective prosecutions of crimes involving sexual assault, strangulation, and felony wounding. We are very grateful to this program and Bon Secours.
