🎉 What is Virginia Intern Day?

The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) will celebrate Virginia Intern Day (VID) on July 30, 2026.

Building on the momentum of National Intern Day, VID highlights the powerful impact internships and work-based learning experiences have on students, employers, higher education institutions, and Virginia's workforce.

Since launching Virginia Intern Day in 2022, V-TOP has recognized employers committed to providing meaningful internship experiences. What began with 33 award-winning employers has grown to an incredible 161 employers being recognized in 2026.

And new this year, V-TOP will honor outstanding student interns through the Virginia's Top Student Intern Awards, recognizing students who have demonstrated exceptional contributions, professional growth, and meaningful impact through their internship experiences.

Together, these awards celebrate the employers and students who are helping strengthen Virginia's talent pipeline and shape the future workforce of the Commonwealth.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing success stories, highlighting award recipients, and celebrating the partnerships that make internships possible.

SCHEV staff along with representatives from the Virginia Consensus for Higher Education in Prisons and the Virginia Community College System recently presented at a national prison education meeting convened by SHEEO. Virginia was one of five states involved over the last year with a SHEEO driven effort to increase prison education programs. The meeting in Atlanta brought the states together to share their findings and initial efforts.
