The forced resignation of UVA President Jim Ryan is not just a loss for one university — it’s a clear sign that the independence of public institutions is under attack. When political agendas overpower academic leadership, our democracy is in danger.

This is bigger than UVA. It’s about the future of education, truth, and justice in this country.

Today we honor the legacy of June 19, 1865—the day the last enslaved Black Americans were told they were free. Juneteenth is more than history—it’s a reminder that freedom was delayed, not given, and that justice is something we continue to fight for.
Virginia has long been both a battleground and a birthplace for the movement—home to generations of young leaders, organizers, educators, and visionaries who paved the way for us. Their legacy lives on every time we raise our voices, organize, and demand better.
To every member of our Division: your voice, your action, and your presence are shaping the future. Thank you for showing up, speaking out, and pushing forward.

The Voting Rights Act of Virginia was signed into law in 2021. But in 2023, 20 bills were introduced to restrict or limit absentee voting, an attempt to roll back progress. Virginians cannot be silent on voting. The process for restoring voting rights to returning citizens is now harder. Virginians cannot be silent on disenfranchisement.
