University of Richmond Emergency Medical Services (UREMS) Our first responders are on-call in teams of two 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year.

UREMS is a group of dedicated undergraduate student EMTs who respond to 911 medical calls 24/7 and provide standby coverage for large events during the academic year on the University of Richmond campus. University of Richmond Emergency Medical Services (UREMS) is a student-run organization that provides volunteer first response to 911 calls for medical assistance on the University of Richmond cam

pus. All UREMS providers are Virginia certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT-Bs), and participate in additional preception and training with Richmond Ambulance Authority. UREMS is dispatched by University of Richmond Police Department (URPD) and Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA). In addition to responding to 911 medical calls, UREMS provides EMS coverage at all home football games at Robins Stadium, and at Relay for Life. UREMS members also host alcohol safety awareness events for the University community, participate in continuing education training, are involved in risk management services for the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness, and attend the National Collegiate EMS Foundation Conference. Remember: in case of emergency on campus dial (804) 289-8911 from a cell phone or 911 from a campus phone to reach the UR police emergency line.

UREMS is excited to be hosting our annual EMT certification course. This is a great program especially for pre-health students and gives you a chance to be on the provider side of the patient-provider relationship and see healthcare up close. Upon completion, you can join UREMS as an EMT and respond to calls on campus!

The 2021-2022 EMT class will begin Tuesday, September 7, 2021 and run through April 7, 2022. To apply for the class please email [email protected] in August 2021 to receive an application. You can also complete the application on-line: https://police.richmond.edu/forms/urems-application-signup-2.html EMT classes will be Tuesday and Thursday 6-10pm, some classes will be Zoom, some sessions may be held on Saturdays to prepare students for the Virginia EMT test. Students will also spend 10 hours riding on an ambulance before testing.

The class will begin in September 2021 with a CPR certification course. Additionally, students may be required to attend training sessions on select Saturdays to prepare for the EMT test and receive addition certifications including EVOC. University of Richmond Emergency Medical Services is hiring certified EMTs for the upcoming academic year. UREMS is a group of dedicated student first responders who respond to all campus medical emergencies and provide standby coverage for sporting events. UREMS first responders are student employees who earn an hourly wage of $15 an hour. If you are currently a certified EMT, interested in joining our team, and making a difference on campus please reach out to Nick Aguilar, ([email protected]).

Additionally, we host a course each year for students to become certified EMTs that runs from September to April. The details of this course are forthcoming. If you are interested please reach out to Harry Dang ([email protected]). This is a great way to gain clinical experience and strengthen your resume for medical and other health schools.

The 2019-2020 UREMS Course is now open for enrollment! If you’re interested, please fill out the application no later than Tuesday, September 24th. **A mandatory CPR class will be held on that same night for all interested individuals.** You must have a CPR card to begin the class.

The class will begin on September 26th, 2019 and lasts a full academic year.
