Happy !

Today and everyday we strive to find ways to support, uplift, and enrich the youth in the Richmond Community 😊

With programs like P.A.L., Biddy Ball, and etc we hope to continue to find way to keep our youth motivated and focused on the bright future that awaits them!

"Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding."
-Albert Einstein

If you can understand the another person, you can start to understand their motivations, how ,and why they do the things they do. You can put yourself in their shoes and understand how they interpret your actions. Then, hopefully, you can explain yourself in a manner that they can better understand. They can then start to understand you a bit better and eventually (in an ideal world) start to understand you...which in turn can result in a positive and peace-making outcome.

I had a chance to visit a few of my old stomping grounds a while ago.

It's always great to take the time and remember where you started. I found a 2nd home at the Sugaw Creek Recreational Center in Charlotte, NC.

It is this community involvement that I had as a young one, that reminds me of how important for our youth to have positive outlets, somewhere where they can use and build skills, and a place that shows them all of the support that they have in the community!

Today is !

On and around this day annually, residents in neighborhoods throughout the City of Richmond and across the nation, lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout Richmond will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, contests, and youth activities where there will be visits by the police and other first responders.

National Night Out is designed to
1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
2. Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts;
3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police‐community partnerships; and
4. Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Kicking off the week by sharing some good news in the City of Richmond!

1.
How exciting would it be to have an Amphitheater that overlooks the James River!? Well, plans have been announce for just that, with the goals of opening doors in Spring of 2024. This is an opportunity to bring more to the community not only use for concert events, but community-based activities and even annual festivals!

2.
Have you heard about the 'Mending Walls' Project started by Hamilton Glass? In 2020 - 2021, this project spoke to many people not only in Richmond but across the country. In collaboration with 20 other artist, 16 murals were spread across Richmond with the goal of creating opportunities for deep and authentic conversations about race, social justice, and equity throughout the city. This year, Glass is collaborating with 5 other artists on 'Mending Walls' 2022 to create a mural on a 500-foot wall at Richmond Hill titled, 'Transcending Walls'!

You can also check out the 'Mending Walls' Documentary!

3.
Safer riding for bike-riders of Richmond!
Per a release from the Richmond Department of Public Works, of the 61 miles of bike lanes maintained by the city, 23 lane miles are physically separated from the rest of the road by flex-posts or floating parking to provide bikers with a greater degree of separation from cars. However, due to these blockage, the usually street-sweeping machines are unable to reach the bike lanes.. so a solution is now in place with a mini street sweeping machine! Riders are sure to benefit from the positive impact it will have on their safety!

Happy Monday all!

Wishing all of our Richmond community a Happy Fourth of July!

“I believe in America because we have great dreams, and because we have the opportunity to make those dreams come true.” – Wendell L. Wilkie

I thank those that came before us and fought for the freedom and independence we have now, and continue to look forward to the improvements we will see in our future.
