Join us at the Bayview Branch Library on Wednesday, June 3rd at 5:30 p.m. for an engaging, kid-friendly workshop on emotional regulation. Children will explore simple, empowering techniques to help them recognize their feelings, understand their β€œwindow of tolerance,” and practice ways to feel more grounded and centered when emotions run high. Through movement, stories, interactive activities, and guided breathing exercises, participants will learn practical tools they can use anytime to feel more calm, present, and connected.

This program creates a supportive environment where children can build awareness of their internal experiences and discover strategies that help them listen, learn, and feel better in challenging moments. For more information, please call 510-620-6566.

Richmond Public Library and the Richmond-Regla Friendship Committee present a film screening of two short films by Catherine Murphy about the Cuban Literacy Campaign of 1961!

Maestra (Teacher) 2012, 33 min.
In September of 1960 Cuba announced to the world that it would eradicate illiteracy within one year through a massive call for volunteer teachers. One quarter of a million people volunteered, many leaving their homes and families to spend months in the mountains and valleys across the nation. Half of those volunteer teachers were under 18 years old and over half of them were women. They taught more than 700,000 people to read and write in one year.

Silvio Rodriguez: Mi Primera Tarea (My First Calling) 2020, 25 min.
The world famous musician, Silvio Rodriguez, shares his first person account of joining the youth brigades at age 14 during the 1961 Cuban Literacy Campaign.

Join us at 6PM in the City Council Chamber at 440 Civic Center Plaza to learn about Cuba's focused efforts to end illiteracy in just one year.

Films will be followed by a brief Q&A.
