Today we remember the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and commemorate Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. This is a day to reflect on and honor those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks, including more than 70 Virginians.

School divisions across the commonwealth are encouraged to take time for reflection by displaying the Freedom Flag, the official 9/11 flag of remembrance in Virginia, discussing the events of the day with their students, and supporting colleagues and communities as we remember.

September is National Literacy Month!

Virginia celebrates literacy every day!

The Virginia Literacy Act provides students, teachers and families with resources and technical assistance to support literacy development. Virginia schools are leading efforts to address gaps in literacy by using high-quality, evidence-based literacy materials and providing interventions for students in K-8 who demonstrate a need for more support.
